Disinfo: Russia never meddles in the internal affairs of other countries

Russia never meddles in internal affairs of its neighbours, or more generally any other country.

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative denying the meddling in internal affairs of neighbouring countries and all countries in general.

The interference of Russia in internal affairs of ex-soviet countries is a long tradition that even ended sometimes in frozen armed conflicts.

Russia also has a track record of meddling in democratic processes such as elections, including in those of western countries. Independent research, media investigations and parliamentary inquiries have uncovered evidence linking Russian state actors with interference in various electoral processes, including the 2016 Brexit vote, the 2017 French Presidential elections, the 2017 German Parliamentary elections, the 2016 constitutional referendum in Italy and the Dutch referendum on the EU’s Association Agreement with Ukraine.

Electoral interference by Russia has been extensively documented in numerous countries around the world.

For more information on Russia's interference in Western democratic processes, see the EUvsDisinfo Elections page. Read also Russiagate is a hoax, Russia has never attempted to influence democratic processes in any country, Russia has never interfered in electoral processes in any country .

The escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is directed against Russia

The escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan over the disputed territory of Nagorno Karabakh is about to get out of control, a scenario wished by some. It can’t be ruled out that this may be directed against Moscow, where the goal is to take the war to a strategic territory for Russia, sensitive for the security of its southern flank. This is something that the Armenian government seem to be starting to understand, after having flirted with the US since 2018 without realising that for this power it is only and exclusively a tool for its regional strategy, subversive and terrorist since it is based on destroying and dividing countries, turning people into enemies of each other and this way securing its presence, the sale of weapons and the plundering of natural and material reaches. The future and welfare of Armenia depend on its indestructible alliance with Russia, something that is clear for most Armenians but not so much for some of its rulers who are now starting to understand that their political games jeopardise the mere existence of a country and a people.

Conspiracy theory with no proof presented to support any of the claims, mixing several recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Russia being encircled by an aggressive West, and the need for Russia’s neighbours to yield to its requests in order to maintain good relations. There is no evidence that foreign powers had anything to do with the September 2020 military escalation between Armenia and Azerbaijan and that the escalation is meant to destabilise Russia.

See other examples in our database, such as claims that the US embassy in Armenia is a mini-Pentagon escalating tension in the region and the Middle East; that western curators organised an anti-Russian coup in Armenia; that the US is encircling Russia with biological labs for a future attack and is ready to carry out a false flag operation in Alaska to blame Russia; or that it is using the conflict of Nagorno-Karabakh to exhaust and destabilise Russia.

The United States played a key role in organising the protests in Belarus

The United States is behind the protests in Belarus. According to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), the United States played a key role in the events in Belarus, investing approximately $ 20 million in supporting Belarusian protests in 2019-2020 through NGOs and increasing its sponsorship of Belarusian anti-government forces since the protests began.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Belarus protests and about protests in post-communist countries, presenting them as being organised and controlled from abroad. This narrative claims that protests, disorders and civil uprisings are never manifestations of popular discontent but are “colour revolutions” directed and funded by the West.

There is no evidence that the US or other foreign forces are involved in any way in the protests in Belarus. The protests in Belarus erupted to contest the results of the presidential election on the 9th of August, which are considered fraudulent by a large part of Belarusian society. The European Union has also stated that the elections were neither free nor fair.

NATO troops’ presence in Ukraine is illegal – this is occupation

On 23 September US military aircraft flew over the Ukrainian capital. The United States have demonstrated their military presence in a satellite country to the world. If you didn’t know what occupation looks like, it looks like this. The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is fully responsible for the illegal stay of foreign troops on the territory of Ukraine, as well as the fulfilment of combat missions by them.
