Disinfo: Russia was promised NATO would never expand eastward

Summary

While the US protests that it never gave assurances to Gorbachev that NATO would not expand eastwards, declassified documents prove otherwise.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO enlargement.

This claim has been debunked numerous times. NATO did not promise not to expand into eastern and central Europe back in 1990, which was confirmed by the former president of the Soviet Union Mikhail Gorbachev. Back in 2014, Gorbachev said “The topic of ‘NATO expansion was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. I say this with full responsibility”.

Central and Eastern European countries began seeking NATO membership in the early 1990s. NATO actively sought to create a cooperative environment that was conducive to enlargement while simultaneously building special relations with Russia.

Furthermore, the claim about NATO "expansion" misrepresents the process of NATO enlargement. NATO does not "expand" but considers the applications of candidate countries that want to join exercising their free will to decide alliance affiliation. NATO enlargement is not directed against Russia.

Disinfo: The pandemic is a smokescreen covering the Great Reset plan

There is little doubt that the “pandemic” declared by the World Health Organization (WHO) is a smokescreen covering the far from medical goals of the Great Reset plan. In the "pandemic fight" led by Big Pharma companies, everything possible is being done to silence honest medical professionals.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory about ”the Great Reset”, a so-called global plan to change the world, in the interest of ”economic elites”, which the article presents as a real goal of the pandemic. This narrative is still repeated periodically, even if it was debunked in November 2020 by BBC's reality check.

The World Health Organization declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020, and a pandemic on 11 March 2020. According to WHO, globally, as of 28 January 2022, there have been 364,191,494 confirmed cases of COVID-19, including 5,631,457 deaths.

Disinfo: Poland is an insignificant periphery of Europe and a tool in the American hands

Poland is only a tool in the hands of the United States and the entire Anglo-Saxon block. It is not Warsaw that makes decisions about the next interference attempts in the internal affairs of the post-Soviet countries. Such decisions are made only by the foreign protectors of the Polish authorities. Poland is “a sad periphery of Europe”. The indicators of social, economic and technological development confirm this. Poland is not a significant country but a primitive human resources base and an assembly plant for the West.

Disproof

A common pro-Kremlin narrative promoting the idea that Poland is a country without any real international importance or political significance. Poland is often presented as an American “puppet-state” and a non-sovereign country.

Poland is a sovereign state, which shapes its own foreign and domestic policies. The political, economic and military relations between Poland and the United States have a mutually beneficial character. The claim that the Polish political elites are “subjected to the Anglo-Saxon block” is unfounded. Read more about Polish-American relations here and here.

Disinfo: US arms' deliveries drives Ukraine towards a military solution in Donbas

The weapons which the United States is supplying in large quantities to Ukraine are driving the official Kyiv to violent adventures against the residents of the Donbas.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin media, claiming that NATO is pushing Ukraine towards a military solution in Donbas. It can be perceived as an attempt to legitimise the repeated massing of Russian military forces nears Ukraine.

Ukraine is adhering to the Minsk agreements. It announced a truce in July 2020, but the Moscow-backed armed separatists have been violating it nearly every day, whereas all Minsk accords call for a comprehensive ceasefire.
