Disinfo: Serious countries neglected Crimean Platform because they know Crimea is Russian

Summary

Today the Crimean Platform started its work in Kyiv. A very mysterious event for us [Russians]. Because Crimea is Russian, and the platform operates in Kyiv.

Most of the states known for their Russophobic position have confirmed their participation at the highest level. But this, apparently, is not enough for official Kyiv. The Crimean Platform has just begun its work, and in Zelenskyy's office, it was not without sadness that they admitted that they were counting on more.

Why didn't they come? Because the international community perfectly understands what is really going on. They perfectly understand where the wind is blowing and how it will all end.

Disproof

The pro-Kremlin media mocks the Crimean Platform, which is a summit of top officials from 46 countries and blocs, including from each of the 30 NATO members.

European Council President Charles Michel said during a speech at the first International Crimea Platform Summit, 23 August 2021.

"I am here to reaffirm the EU's unwavering stance: we do not and will not recognize the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia," No international body recognises the so-called referendum, announced on 27 February 2014, and held on 16 March 2014.

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. On 17 December 2018, the UN General Assembly confirmed its non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Today, not everyone in Crimea is "extremely happy" to be under the Russian administration. Though, expressing any dissatisfaction can be very risky: human rights violations in Crimea are serious and repeated recently said France. The UN continues to document violations of international human rights and humanitarian law perpetrated by the Russian Federation, as the occupying Power, including deportations of protected persons, forced conscription and restrictions on freedom of expression.

See related disinformation claims alleging that Crimea has never been Ukraine; that Crimea rejoined Russia following a referendum; that Crimea "sailed" to Russia forever and the West agrees with it.

Disinfo: The EU supported oppositional plotters, so Lukashenka stopped protecting the European border

Does the KGB kidnap people from Iraq or Afghanistan and bring them to the border by force? Or maybe it pays for their transport and accommodation, and then these people are sent on a “mission” to cross the border with Poland?

The truth is very simple, but it is difficult to accept. After the introduction of the EU sanctions on Belarus, President Lukashenka publicly announced the “désintéressement” in the protection of the EU border by Belarusian border services. During recent years, the Belarusian authorities, in consultation with partners in the West, tried to control this route, preventing the movement of potential migrants to the EU. After the EU did everything possible to support the oppositional plotters, Lukashenka stated that he would not help Europe anymore. Why would he help it at all? Moreover, the May sanctions against Belarusian aviation forced Belavia to look for new markets, so it turned out that the immigrants wanted to use these new routes.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative about the ongoing migration crisis on the eastern border of the EU directly inspired by the Belarusian authorities.

There is numerous evidence that the Belarusian authorities have taken a direct part in the organisation of the ongoing “migration crisis” in Lithuania, Poland and Latvia. Lukashenka’s regime is using refugees from Middle Eastern countries as a “political and hybrid” weapon against Lithuania and the whole EU. Read more about the direct participation of the Belarusian security services in the “migration crisis” here.
