The gap between the Russian Federation and the EU has been going on for many years, and the EU has been consistently breaking relations. And although Moscow and Brussels are discussing some issues, this is not part of the relations between the Russian Federation and the EU. The framework of these relations was deliberately destroyed at the initiative of Brussels. Moscow is ready to establish a dialogue with the EU, but Brussels itself is not going to do this.
Russia, of course, recognises the Ukrainian state, but at the same time, the real Ukrainian state, from that moment when a military coup took place with the complicity of a number of Western countries, turned into a project for these western countries … Ukraine is not a friendly country for Russia, which was concluded on the basis of hostile measures toward Russia, which has consistently dominated Ukrainian leadership policy.

There was no coup, nor a western orchestrated protest in Ukraine.
The demonstrations which began in Kyiv in November 2013 – called "Maidan", or "Euromaidan" – were a result of the Ukrainian people's frustration with former President Yanukovych's last-minute U-turn when, after seven years of negotiation, he refused to sign the EU–Ukraine Association Agreement and halted progress towards Ukraine's closer relationship with the EU due to Russian pressure. It cannot be labelled as a coup.
The protesters' demands included constitutional reform, a stronger role for parliament, formation of a government of national unity, an end to corruption, early presidential elections and an end to violence.
The EU is among the strongest advocates of Ukraine's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
