Disinfo: ‘Spain’s Watergate’ is purposefully ignored by the mainstream media

The Spanish government used all the resources of the State to crush the left-wing party Podemos and the main media happily contributed to it spreading false information against it. And now that this state-sponsored smear campaign has been uncovered, those same media prefer to ignore it. Spain is the worst place in the world to learn about this scandal.

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on the corrupt and biased mainstream media. The Spanish judiciary is investigating whether the Minister of Interior and even president Mariano Rajoy were aware or illegal means being used to fabricate false information on Podemos party and its leader Pablo Iglesias, then fed to some media to publish it.

Major Spanish media outlets have not ignored this scandal. El País, El Mundo or El Confidencial, just to name a few, have devoted many front-page articles to it, and it has been the subject of prime time TV debates. Pablo Iglesias himself has taken part in at least half a dozen TV and radio interventions about this topic. The current leader of Rajoy’s Popular Party has been asked about this affair several times in different interviews and he had to respond to it.

Georgia unwilling to make non-use of force pledge in Geneva

At the latest round of the Geneva International Discussions for security and stability in the South Caucasus, which are regularly held in accordance with the Medvedev-Sarkozy agreement reached immediately after the August 2008 war, three delegations stressed the need to adopt a joint statement on non-use of force. However, the counterproductive position of the Georgian side has again thwarted progress on this issue.

Recurring pro-Kremlin Russian narrative accusing Tbilisi of starting the August 2008 war with Russia on Georgia’s own territory.

Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili made a statement on Georgia’s unilateral commitment not to use force as early as in November 2010, when he addressed the European Parliament. The Georgian Parliament in March 2013 and President Giorgi Margvelashvili in May 2016 both reiterated the commitment to peaceful resolution of conflict and unilateral non-use of force pledge.
