Disinfo: Srebrenica will repeat in Ukraine

Summary

If the border of separatist-controlled DNR and LNR with Russia will be closed this will trigger a massacre in this area like one which took place in Srebrenica in the early 90s. Russia will not allow this, though Ukrainian authorities already started offensive that resulted in around 10 000 victims.

Disproof

No evidence given, recurring disinformation. According to the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, the killings at Srebrenica, compounded by the mass expulsion of Bosniak civilians, amounted to genocide. There is no evidence of a threat of a genocide in Ukraine. The conflict in Ukraine escalated to a war after Russia annexed Crimea and started to support the separatists. euvsdisinfo.eu/disinformation-cases/?text=genocide&disinfo_issue=&date=,

Disinfo: Ukraine politics is irrational and has already buried its European choice

Ukrainian politics is not just irrational and devoid of logic – and why the Europeans cannot understand it, cannot then stand on one or the other side, and it’s becoming even worse now – [Ukrainian politics] has been arranged generally outside the framework of traditional politics. [—] the main problem of the current Ukraine is that it has buried its European choice in front of the eyes of Europe.

Disproof

The EU supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and sees the full implementation of the Minsk agreements as the basis for a sustainable, political solution to the conflict in the east of the country. Since spring 2014, the EU has stepped up its support for economic and political reforms in Ukraine. Ukraine is a priority partner for the European Union, also within the EU's Eastern Partnership.

On 1 September 2017, the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement came into full force, and on 1 October 2017 the additional autonomous trade measures of the EU for Ukraine entered into force.

Disinfo: The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Adopted a Resolution that Could Lift the Political Sanctions on Russia

The results of the vote in PACE demonstrate the abolition of sanctions imposed on Russia, as “the Resolution prohibits the OSCE to extend the term of the restrictions imposed on Russia without the consent of the member states”. This makes the possibility of extension of the sanctions against Russia questionable, therefore the sanctions could be lifted in January of the next year.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation euvsdisinfo.eu/report/council-of-europe-parliamentary-assembly-rejected-all-the-anti-russian-proposals-by-kiev-and-will-abolish-all-political-sanctions-against-russia/, . The text of the Resolution does not mention the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

With the resolution, the Council of Europe calls for a Summit to "reaffirm European unity and to defend and promote democratic security in Europe". The last summit was organised 12 years ago in 2005. The Council of Europe has two branches – a Parliamentary Assembly and the Committee of Ministers. The assembly comprises delegations from the parliaments of member countries. Because of its aggression against Ukraine, Russia has been suspended from taking part in the assembly since 2014. This is the only sanction referred to in the resolution as one which would potentially be lifted. The Committee of Ministers consists of the Foreign Ministers, or senior diplomats, from the member states. The Council of Europe’s sanctions against Russia did not extend to this committee.
