Disinfo: Strange coincidence of epidemics and research laboratories supported by the US in Ukraine

Summary

The US embassy in Ukraine officially recognised that they keep toxins and pathogens in Ukraine. Strangely, epidemics started next to those facilities.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about "secret laboratories" in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. See examples of similar disinformation narratives about the Lugar laboratory in Tbilisi, Georgia.

The US supports the research against dangerous infectious diseases through the Biological Threat Reduction Program. The US Embassy in Ukraine reaffirmed that the country offers its support to ensure Ukraine can detect and report outbreaks caused by dangerous pathogens before they pose security or stability threats.

No epidemics outbreak have been observed in connection to the laboratories activities.

London doctors classify coronavirus patients based on their “worthiness”

London doctors have explained to the community how they will “classify” coronavirus patients: young patients without comorbidities will be treated in a field hospital. The elderly, who have fewer chances of survival, will be assigned to public hospitals. There, they are asked, first of all, to sign a pledge not to demand resuscitation if their situation becomes worse. But many patients rebelled against this decision. As a result, the doctors adopted a special algorithm, according to which a patient is deemed “worthy” of an ICU bed and respirator or not.

Disproof

A claim provided with no evidence, and a recurrent narrative about the West’s inability to manage the coronavirus crisis–as well as sacrificing its elderly for economic reasons.

In fact, since the start of the crisis, the main focus of the medical and social services of Western states is to assist the older population as it is the main risk group for this disease.

EU and NATO stood by and watched the coronavirus crisis worsen without helping Italy

EU and NATO simply stood by and watched the coronavirus crisis worsen without helping Italy.

Disproof

The COVID-19 outbreak constituted a serious challenge on Europe's readiness for a crisis. The President of the European Commission has apologised for the slow response on behalf of the Union. The claim that "EU has done nothing" is false.

The European Commission has approved a €50 million Italian aid scheme to support the production and supply of medical devices, as well as to help Italy provide the necessary medical treatment to those infected.
