DISINFO: The West wants to turn Belarus into anti-Russian outpost

SUMMARY

The European Union and the West do not care about the promotion of democracy and market economy in Belarus. Their interest is to turn Belarus into an anti-Russian outpost. Belarusian and Russian independence and sovereignty are only possible in the Union State of Belarus and Russia.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy theory consistent with a common Belarus-related pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western attempts to bring discord in Belarusian-Russian relations and to turn Belarus into an anti-Russian country.

Over the past two years, there has been progress in EU–Belarus relations. Belarus has been participating more pro-actively in the Eastern Partnership, in particular, in the multilateral formats, negotiations on a Mobility Partnership were concluded and negotiations on a Visa Facilitation and Readmission Agreements were recently finalised paving the road for signing the long-awaited agreements. However, nothing in bilateral tracks of cooperation suggests that the EU's goal is to make Belarus an anti-Russian outpost as alleged. Read more about the relations between the EU and Belarus here.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that the US and NATO see Belarus only as part of an anti-Russia bastion, the West's only interest in Belarus is to make it anti-Russian and that the West aims at cultivating anti-Russian sentiments in Belarus.
