DISINFO: The exacerbation in Nagorno-Karabakh is artificially provoked by the US

SUMMARY

Perhaps this is precisely the goal pursued by the people who use Nikol Pashinyan. Not France, rather the USA who wants to make sure that this region distracts attention from Ukrainian events.

This is a distraction manoeuvre. It is clear that this cannot last for long, this is a flash to distract attention. But it is quite obvious that this conflict is artificial.

RESPONSE

Conspiracy narrative not supported by any credible evidence. See similar recurrent conspiracies on the West starting the war in Ukraine.

On 19 September a senior U.S. State Department official stated that the U.S. Secretary of State was likely to get involved within the next 24 hours in the diplomatic engagement already under way between Armenia and Azerbaijan following the military escalation along the Line of Contact and in other locations in Karabakh.

See also the statement from the EU High Representative Josep Borrell in which he calls for the immediate cessation of hostilities, for Azerbaijan to stop the current military activities and urges dialogue between Baku and Karabakh Armenians.

The pro-Kremlin media outlet roots its narrative in the imperialistic allegation that the Caucasus region is exclusively within Russia's zone of geopolitical dominance and attempts to discredit any other efforts of mediation in the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives often accuse the allegedly aggressive West of having an anti-Russian agenda in the Caucasus and warmongering there without giving any evidence.

Karabakh is internationally recognised as Azerbaijani territory but part of it under the administration of ethnic Armenian authorities. See the Nagorno-Karabakh profile from BBC News for further details.
