The members of Ukraine’s Central Election Commission are Poroshenko’s people

The members of the Central Election Commission of Ukraine are Petro Poroshenko’s people; personally fed and charged to realise his plan to remain for a second term.  Virtually all district election commissions are manned by Petro Poroshenko; he personally selected almost all members of district election commissions.

A pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative around the Ukrainian elections.

The Central Election Commission of Ukraine is an independent state body. The Verkhovna Rada, the Parliament of Ukraine, appoints and terminates the powers of the members of the Commission on the proposal of the President of Ukraine.  The proposals of parliamentary factions and groups are taken into account as well.

The representatives of the CEC of Ukraine-2019 were delegated by different political parties.  The Verkhovna Rada elected members of the Central Election Commission in September 2018. Members of the district election commissions for election-2019 were appointed by the Central Election Commission of Ukraine.

PENDING CLARIFICATIONS Poland has built a terminal for Norwegian gas that is not economically feasible – MARTYNA please revise

Poland has built a terminal for Norwegian gas because it wants to diversify, but it is sitting half empty as it is not economically feasible.

The 900-km (560-mile) pipeline, known as the Baltic Pipe, aims to reduce Poland’s reliance on Russian gas. It cannot use its full capacity yet, as it is expected to be ready in 2022, when Poland’s long-term deal with Russian gas company Gazprom expires.

A feasibility study has shown that the Baltic Pipe Project can bring significant socio-economic benefits to Poland, Denmark, the Baltic and Central & Eastern European regions.

The US wants Brazil to join NATO to use it as a base for an intervention in Venezuela

Donald Trump talked about designating Brazil as a major non-NATO ally or even possibly a NATO member, because the US wants to use it as a beachhead for a military intervention in Venezuela. Colombia is already a NATO partner and now the US want to grant the same status to Brazil, to have it ready to implement actions against governments considered undesirable in Latin America, namely Venezuela.

This case is part of a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about alleged plots against Venezuela.

Designation by the US as a non-NATO ally offers some benefits in the field of military cooperation but it doesn’t imply any obligation to provide bases or troops for operations.

NATO is aiming to break Russia down

There is (in NATO) a strategic course aimed at breaking down the Russian state. In particular, these acts are aimed at engaging it in both the Baltic and the Black Sea. Russia needs to be subdued so the United States can focus on fighting China.

This is a recurring Kremlin narrative about the belligerent West and NATO attempting to encircle and weaken Russia.

NATO’s essential and enduring purpose is to safeguard the freedom and security of all its members by political and military means. Collective defence is at the heart of the Alliance and creates a spirit of solidarity and cohesion among its members.
