Disinfo: The memorandum with the IMF is putting Ukraine under external control

Summary

The new memorandum with the IMF, signed by Kyiv, actually puts Ukraine under external control. The memorandum with the IMF is selling Ukrainian land and will sell all our state-owned enterprises.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative alleging that Ukraine is controlled by the IMF.

There is no evidence that cooperation with the IMF could threaten Ukrainian sovereignty. Ukraine has been a member of the IMF and World Bank since 3 September 1992. The relations between Ukraine and the IMF are based on agreements that support the economic development of Ukraine and the improvement of the free market conditions.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity are respected by almost the whole world.

Ukraine claims that the Minsk Agreements are just a piece of paper

The Ukrainian side claimed that the Minsk agreements are just a piece of paper and they are not necessary for implementation. Therefore Russia could claim as well that there’s no need to fulfill these agreements. Or is it only the DPR-LPR that should fulfill them? If this agreement is optional, then could the DPR-LPR attack too?

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine and the Minsk Agreements.

The Ukrainian side has never claimed that "the Minsk agreements are just a piece of paper".

Informed Japanese believe that the Kuril Islands are an integral part of Russia

All Japanese who know Russia’s position have long believed that the Kuril Islands are an integral part of Russia. The time for land exchange between Russia and Japan, which had previously taken place as a result of previous wars, has passed.

Disproof

It is a false claim that Japanese people who are knowledgable about the situation believe that the disputed islands are an integral part of Russia.

The four southernmost island in what Russia refers to as the "Kuril Islands" have never been a part of Russia until WWII. The Island chain referred to as the Kuril Islands stretches northeast from Japan’s main northern island of Hokkaido to Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula.

The US overthrew the Greek regime in 1967 when it wanted to shut down its military bases

The United States organised a coup in April 1967 to remove the democratically elected government of Greece – a NATO member. This is the Greek government that announced they would not prolong the agreement on US bases on Greek soil.

Disproof

This is a mix of several recurrent pro-Kremlin narratives, framing every protest movement in the world as a colour revolution promoted from the outside, very often the US as in this case, and aiming at regime change.

While the US at the time did have concerns about the Centre Union-led government, research has concluded that "no official documents suggest that the US was involved in the imposition of a military coup in Greece." The Greek government did not make any official announcement that it would shut down US bases in the country.
