Disinfo: The only thing uniting the EU is sanctions against Russia

Summary

The only thing which unites the EU is sanctions against Russia.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narratives about sanctions and Russophobia.

The European Union is bound by many things being based on the values like respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law and respect for human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities. These values are common to the Member States in a society in which pluralism, non-discrimination, tolerance, justice, solidarity and equality between women and men prevail. These values unite all the member states – no country can belong to the Union if it does not recognise these values.

Since March 2014, the EU has progressively imposed restrictive measures against Russia. The measures were adopted in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and the deliberate destabilisation of Ukraine.

Read similar cases claiming that the EU countries are adopting sanctions in order to keep unity, that anti-Russian position helped NATO countries freeze a drift in different directions and that Russian threat is an invention.

Latvia is under the rule of Anglo-Saxons, the threat of genocide is there

Anglo-Saxons and the Western world has a long tradition of colonialism. Latvia is not independent in any sphere. Currently, Latvian nationalists mostly hate Russian sitting at home. However more energetic Ukrainian nationalist will come and offer to share violent ways of treating Russians. Where are the guarantees that no genocide will start in Latvia?

Earlier this year George Soros announced in Davos that he will spend USD 1 billion for waging psychological wars. He gathers Russian-speaking people from all post-Soviet states, creates journalist communities which elaborate cognitive weapons and manipulation techniques, 25th frame in their photo and video publications. The events at Bolotnaya square and Russian regions were attempts to organize a colour revolution. However Vladimir Putin, political grandmaster, outrun them and announced a [constitutional] referendum on 22 April.

Disproof

This is a mix of conspiracy theories and recurring pro-Kremlin propagandistic narratives about lost sovereignty / external control, Russophobia in Latvia – in its extreme modification alleging a possible genocide against ethnic Russians / Russian-speaking population – and other Baltic states, West's attempts to stage a colour revolution in Russia and beyond, and about aggressive Anglo-Saxons in particular.

In the pro-Kremlin media, the term “Anglo-Saxons” means “evil”, “belligerent” and “morally corrupt” Westerners, as explained by our earlier analysis. This publication also contains a Soros-related conspiracy, one among many others, none with evidence to support them, as explained in our story The All-Powerful Mr Soros.

The West perceives itself as a colonizer of post-Soviet states

The West does not see post-Soviet states as equals, it sees its people as savages and itself as a colonizer. The so-called “Polish model” of Eurointegration cannot be the case for post-Soviet countries. Instead, it would bring an absolute subordination, the oblivion of national interests, external governance, and total replacement of local managers with Western proteges. They would experience a systemic degradation and turn into the extreme periphery of the Western world, something that already happened to Ukraine which became Poland’s demographic colony. Whereas Ukraine continues to degrade and die out, Polish GDP increases thanks to the cheap Ukrainian labour force. The same model of Eurointegration would be the case for Belarus.

Disproof

This gloomy Eurointegration scenario is consistent with recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about aggressive West, portraying the economic situation of Ukraine as disastrous and alleging that Belarus' future is only possible in union with Russia.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that Poland is preparing Euromaidan scenario for Belarus, that the West's only interest in Belarus is to make it anti-Russian, that Belarus moves towards complete colonization by the West, and that Germany created the euro to colonise countries that couldn’t be conquered militarily.

COVID-2019 was created by the US in 2015

COVID-2019 was created by a US laboratory in 2015. A study published by researchers from the University of North Carolina and Wuhan Institute of Virology serves as proof.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory with no evidence given, based on recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about biological weapons and that the outbreak of COVID-19 coronavirus is man-made, in this case, made in the US.

COVID-19 comes from a family of viruses originating in animals that include other viruses such as SARS and MERS. It was first reported in the Chinese city of Wuhan in central China and has been rapidly spreading across the world.
