Disinfo: Polish authorities are obsessed with an idea of reconstruction of a modern Polish Empire

The future of the EU depends on whether it will be able to establish space for international cooperation and dialogue. The Polish authorities do everything to undermine this goal. They are obsessed with the revenge ideas for the defeats of the previous centuries. They are dreaming about the dominance in Eastern Europe and reconstruction of a modern Polish Empire similar to the First Rzeczpospolita, where Ukraine and Belarus would be the vassals of Warsaw. Today, this plan of Poland is one of the biggest threats for the future of the European Union.

This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism alleging that Poland has imperialist plans for Ukraine and Belarus.

Poland fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Belarus, it does not have any territorial claims against its neighbours and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries.

Poland has turned into a mongrel, ready to bark at Russia

Every country of the world wants to take part in a big geopolitical game. Warsaw has currently become the “world’s mongrel”, ready to “bark” at Russia against any common sense and the position of its EU partners.

This message is a part of the ongoing Russian disinformation attack on Poland, on this occasion accusing Poland of waging an information war against Russia and manipulating history for political reasons.

Poland is not carrying out an information war against Russia and it does not spread anti-Russian propaganda. In recent weeks, the Polish authorities have defended the good name of their country, the historical truth about the disastrous role of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and the joint Nazi-Soviet attack on Poland in September 1939.

Poland creates and promotes its historical myths in an active and aggressive way

Today, Poland actively and aggressively promotes its vision of history and the post-Yalta world order. Most probably, there is no such country in the EU, which creates and implements its historical policy and historical myths in such a way as Poland.

This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism – it accuses Poland in “falsification and re-writing” of its history. According to this policy, the Russian official historiography is the only “true” way of interpretation of historical events for the countries of Eastern and Central Europe.

The Polish historical policy is based on objective historical facts, shared by the predominant majority of mainstream historians.

Ukraine does not implement the Minsk agreements because it is controlled by the West

One of the main obstacles to the Minsk agreements is “Kyiv’s unwillingness to engage in normal dialogue with Donetsk and Luhansk. This obligation is obviously not being met, although this is one of the main conditions of the Minsk package”. (…) From Kyiv, in statements by deputies close to the President, it was repeatedly heard that the army should be ready to use force, if necessary, to reclaim the Donbas areas. In other words, the military aspect is also visible, although the Normandy format was originally planned as an opportunity to solve the problems in south-eastern Ukraine in a peaceful way. Kyiv’s aim is to reorientate, to rebuild the whole system of the Minsk agreement.

Following the visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to Kyiv, the rhetoric on the Ukrainian side has changed dramatically, which has led to a worsening of the situation in the Donbas. Ukraine is a controlled country, and for the United States, the worsening of relations between Ukraine and Russia is now more important than the peaceful settlement in Ukraine. (…) Ukraine is not a fully sovereign state. Therefore, it must be understood that the current situation is not being led by Ukraine itself, not by its people, but by the forces in Europe and the US, which are behind the current Ukrainian leadership and are using Ukraine for their own purposes.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative that Ukraine refuses to implement the Minsk agreements, undermining the statehood of Ukraine and alleging that Ukraine is a state under foreign control.

Since 2014, negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict in the Donbas have been held within the framework of the Normandy Format and the Minsk process. A special Trilateral contact group is working on a peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas. Three parties are involved in this process: representatives of Ukraine, Russia and the OSCE. Unofficially, representatives of the so-called "LDNR" factions are also present. Ukraine is not the only party to the conflict in the Donbas. In 2015, Russian President Vladimir Putin admitted Russia's military presence in Ukraine.
