Disinfo: The Polish historical policy is written by the Law and Justice party

Summary

Poland consistently implements the so-called historical policy written by the officials from the Law and Justice and the close surroundings of this party. This historical policy promotes the narrative that Poland was the victim of the USSR with the Communist ideology and the Third Reich with the Nazi ideology, claiming the two were de facto equal totalitarianisms.

Disproof

This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism – it denies the fact of the aggressive nature of the Soviet actions against Poland in September 1939 and the totalitarian character of the Stalinist USSR.

The Polish historical policy is based on objective historical facts, shared by the predominant majority of mainstream historians. First of all, it is an undeniable historical fact that both Nazi Germany and the Stalinist USSR were harsh totalitarian regimes, which directly caused the deaths of tens of millions of people. Secondly, these two regimes are mutually responsible for the outbreak of WWII. It is a proven historical fact that the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact contained the Secret Supplementary Protocol, which assumed the division of Poland and other Eastern European countries between the USSR and Germany. Thus, the signing of the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact enabled the German and Soviet military aggression against Poland in September 1939, which resulted in the occupation of this country by Germany and USSR, triggering the beginning of WWII.

According to mainstream Polish historians and the views of the predominant part of Polish society, in 1944-1945 the USSR occupied Poland, establishing the undemocratic and repressive Communist Poland. Poland was kept under the Soviet sphere of influence until 1989.

Claims about Russia’s interference into US elections are unfounded

US accusations of Moscow’s alleged interference in the internal affairs of other states is an illusion, as well as a “desire to wishful thinking” in order to get some kind of external adversary whose presence helps to solve domestic political issues.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation denying Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election.

Available evidence suggests that Russian meddling the 2016 US presidential poll - which was specifically aimed to damage Clinton's campaign and aid her opponent - did affect the outcome of the vote, particularly in three critical swing states where Trump's victory margins were the thinnest.

The Red Army saved Kraków from destruction by Nazis

The Nazi command wanted to set a trap, flooding Krakow, its inhabitants and the Soviet soldiers. These plans were not implemented thanks to the operation carried out by the group led by Lieutenant Alexei Botian. This Russian hero led the operation to save Krakow from Nazi destruction.

Disproof

This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism and promotes a fake story about the “heroic saving of the city of Krakow from Nazi destruction by the Red Army”. For decades, the Soviet authorities have spread a story about the heroic role of the Red Army in the saving of Kraków Old Town from being blown up by retreating Nazi troops. Polish historians have established the narrative of the Nazis, preparing to blow up Kraków as a post-war myth aimed at the glorification of the Red Army among the Poles.

Euromaidan was a coup led by fascists

In 2014 (…) a coup happened in Ukraine with the participation of the Nazis, who were used to taking power into their own hands, and blaming Russia for all of Ukraine’s problems of Ukraine.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives painting the 2013-14 Ukrainian revolution as a coup d'etat, and Ukrainian politics as dominated by fascist/Nazi groups and ideology.

The Euromaidan was not a coup but a nationwide popular protest against the government's sudden announcement that it would not sign the EU Association Agreement. See the full debunk here.
