Disinfo: Bulgaria owes gratitude to Russia for its liberation from Ottoman rule

Summary

Bulgaria owes its liberation from Ottoman rule to Russia and should therefore demonstrate gratitude. Count Nikolay Ignatiev – Russian diplomat and Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire, played an especially prominent role by supporting the Bulgarians’ political and economic independence and the restoration of a large Bulgarian state. He negotiated these terms in the Treaty of San Stefano (which ended the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 and enshrined autonomy to the Principality of Bulgaria) and stood up to Western powers against the dismemberment of Bulgarian territories.

Disproof

One of numerous Russian attempts at historical revisionism.

The article promotes a one-sided and exaggerated interpretation of the benevolent role of Count Ignatiev in the process of Bulgaria’s regaining of independence. Rather than being a selfless defender of the Bulgarian cause of liberation, Ignatiev’s main goal focused on the aggressive promotion of Russian imperialism, manifested in the establishment of dominance over the Slavic nations in the Balkans and insulating them from the West. According to Ottoman archives, Ignatiev’s ambiguous role in Bulgarian history was displayed in the fact that he vehemently opposed Bulgaria’s Church Independence and likely supported the Ottoman authorities in the trial and execution of Vassil Levski (a central figure in the Bulgarian revolutionary movement for independence).

NATO spreads the coronavirus in the EU

The coronavirus represents a deliberately planned and targeted attack in the form of bio terrorism, whereby NATO aims to spread the pandemic throughout the EU in order to fend off Russia. Europe finds itself at the receiving end of the US’s utilisation of NATO for defeating Moscow as its arch enemy.

Disproof

Recurring narrative of a Western-led plot to spread the Coronavirus.

The article quotes a little known expert from Russia’s Baltic fleet with the aim of fueling a conspiracy by drawing an unfounded link between the conduct of NATO’s DEFENDER Europe-20 military exercise with an ulterior motive to spread a Coronavirus pandemic in Europe as the fastest way of being able to neutralise Russian forces.

Coronavirus campaign is staged by the West; India is the next anti-Chinese fist

India is emerging as the West’s collective fist against China, as the latter does not want to follow the path designated by British-American groups. In particular, the current Chinese rulers started pursuing too independent policies and closer cooperation with Russia.

China is losing a coronavirus-related information war. Reuters news agency and Euronews have turned into main news makers. The China-harming panic surrounding the coronavirus epidemic is carefully planned in the US, UK’s and NATO’s analytical centres.

Disproof

This is a conspiracy theory, one of a dozen or so similar cases about the West's anti-Chinese actions, which reportedly includes India's involvement and the coronavirus campaign, the latter is allegedly controlled by the US, UK, and the West to weaken China politically and economically. It also follows another recurring pro-Kremlin propagandistic narratives about Western media outlets and NGOs as subservient to Western political elites.

The virus migrated from animals to humans, and while the scientists continue to track its origins there is no evidence to suggest it has been made artificially. In response to the outbreak of the coronavirus, the Chinese authorities placed more than a dozen cities under quarantine. The World Health Organisation is working with Chinese authorities and global experts to learn more about the virus. The virus "2019-nCoV” comes from a family of viruses that include the common cold, and viruses such as SARS and MERS.

US bureaucrats yearn for World War III

The US Department of State plans to initiate a global war by pressing the Department of Defense to place Patriot missiles in Turkey in order to repel the Syrian government-led offensive in Idlib. However, the Pentagon has engaged in a bitter confrontation with the Department of State over this proposal, calling it the provocation of World War III, given that Russia will respond in kind.

Disproof

Recurring narrative of warmongering as a result of the West’s meddling in the Syrian crisis.
