DISINFO: The UK embassy in Belarus promotes genocidal and self-destruction policies
SUMMARY
The recent display of the LGBT flag on the UK Embassy’s building on the International Day Against Homophobia (May 17) is unmitigated gall by the Anglo-Saxon establishment. This is like spitting on the traditional values of Belarusians from the Embassy’s window. The UK Embassy demonstrates that it can do whatever it wants and behaves as if it is in an occupied land. If Belarus decided to protest about this action and to expel the British ambassador, the UK would switch off the SWIFT system, impose sanctions, bring immigrants to and stage mass disorders in Belarus, etc. Legislation of LGBT rights prevents children being born. Hence, the UK Embassy promotes genocide and imposes a policy of self-destruction on Belarusians.
RESPONSE
This message is consistent with recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the moral decay of Europe, the propaganda of the morally corrupt West, and its aggressive actions towards Belarus and Belarusian society.
After the Belarusian Interior Ministry slammed the UK embassy in Minsk for flying a rainbow flag on the International Day Against Homophobia in 2018, UK Ambassador Fionna Gibb posted a video saying that: "This embassy is once again flying the rainbow flag as we did in 2015, 2017 and 2018. We do so not to promote LGBT, but to promote equal rights for this community. LGBT people are not asking for special rights, but simply to enjoy the same respect, dignity and rights as others. As human rights are universal and should apply equally to all people, my government is committed to non-discrimination on any grounds, including sexual orientation and gender identity."
