The war in Donbas is in its eight year. In 2015, the second Minsk agreement was signed to stop the bloodshed. But Kyiv continues to ignore this document. Not one single point of this document has been fulfilled by Ukraine.
What could be considered a turning point is when the coup happened in Ukraine and the European Union showed its inability to preserve the agreement that was concluded on the eve of the coup between the authorities and the opposition, which was signed by Germany, France and Poland.
The opposition did not honour these signatures or the position of the European Union, which was calling for the need to implement this agreement. This is the moment when the real insult to the European Union occurred.
This statement includes multiple pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the Euromaidan protests that took place in 2014. These claims were neither counterbalanced nor critically challenged in the article.
First, the claim that the opposition insulted the EU in its "dishonouring" of the February 21 agreement, signed between former President Viktor Yanukovych and a number of opposition leaders is misleading about the EU's actual role. The EU was not party to the agreement and its role was limited to witnessing it, and was represented for this task by the foreign ministers of three member states: Poland, Germany and France. The claim is also consistent with the narrative that the Euromaidan protesters were controlled or/and pushed by the EU/West, and ironically contradict it by implying that the EU had no control over the opposition.
Second, the Euromaidan was not a coup attempt but a nationwide popular protest against the government's sudden announcement that it would not sign the EU Association Agreement. See the full debunk here.
