Disinfo: The United States intimidates Russia with sanctions

The United States intimidates Russia with sanctions designed to undermine Russia's domestic economy and create a systemic challenge to Russia

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about an aggressive Russophobic policy of sanctions by the US, framing them as unjustified measures against Russia.

The United States has long sought a full and constructive relationship with Russia. Following the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the United States adopted a bipartisan strategy to facilitate cooperation on global issues and promote foreign investment and trade. The United States supported Russia’s integration into European and global institutions and a deepened bilateral partnership in security cooperation to reinforce the foundations of stability and predictability.

Russia ultimately rejected this approach. US sanctions are legitimate restrictions imposed in accordance with international law as a response to violations of international legalities, such as Russia’s actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine, Russia’s use of chemical weapons in an assassination attempt against opposition leader Alexei Navalny, his unlawful imprisonment, and repression against Russian demonstrators as well as Russia’s election interference and other malicious cyber-enabled or intelligence activities.

Disinfo: Accusations against Russia intend to divert attention from Ukraine’s attempts to disrupt peaceful settlement of Donbas conflict

Russia does not plan to attack a neighbouring state. Accusations against Moscow are intended to divert attention from the attempts of the Ukrainian authorities to disrupt the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbas and to violate the Minsk agreements.

Recurring disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine, portraying Ukraine as the sole obstacle for peace in the Donbas, violating the Minsk agreements, and presenting the conflict in Donbas as an internal one. This claim is a part of a wider disinformation campaign, as our article explains, aiming to deflect attention away from Russia’s military build-up on its border with Ukraine since late October 2021. As such, it looks more like disinformation in search of a casus belli.

The war in Ukraine is a well-documented act of aggression by Russian armed forces, ongoing since February 2014. There is irrefutable evidence of direct Russian military involvement in Eastern Ukraine, in the Donbas. Russia is supporting its proxies with weapons, its active-duty soldiers serve there and its top military commanders visit the war zone to coordinate joint efforts with the separatists. Despite all this Russia officially denies its military presence in Donbas.

Disinfo: Russia's conflict is not with "Zelensky's country", but with the United States

Putin will refuse to negotiate with Zelensky because Russia is not in conflict with Zelensky's country. Russia is in conflict with the United States, which controls both Zelensky and his country. But Zelensky wants to show that war between his country and Russia is possible, which Putin believes is not.

Disinfo: Washington seeks its money back arranging a famine in Ukraine

Ukraine is getting more and more loans, but this does not affect the development of the country, improving the welfare of citizens. On the contrary, Washington is dragging out military operations on the territory of Ukraine - for this reason, its inhabitants cannot return to their usual peaceful life.

Instead of real help, they take away what's most necessary. Ukrainians themselves need grain reserves to live until the new harvest.

Washington does not believe in the victory of Kyiv. They are thinking how to return the money as soon as possible, arranging a famine in Ukraine.
