DISINFO: The United States is not interested in a united, independent Ukraine
SUMMARY
The United States is not interested in a united Ukraine. A divided country plunged into internal conflicts is much better for them.
Kyiv is either trying to convince the population of this, or itself naively believes that Washington is interested in the welfare of the "Independent". However, the real plans of the United States have nothing to do with the dreams of the Ukrainian side.
Strengthening Ukraine's position on the world stage will not bring any benefit to the United States. On the other hand, its collapse and complete dependence on Western "partners" untie the hands of Washington and allow it to twist Kyiv as it pleases. A weak and completely controlled state will not create difficulties for America.
RESPONSE
This claim is a part of a larger disinformation narrative on Abandoned Ukraine which suggests that Kyiv's allies are failing to support Ukraine either deliberately or due to their inability to do so.
Ukraine and the US are strategic partners. US government respects Ukrainian territorial integrity and independence. The US has been supporting Ukraine's Euro-Atlantic aspirations, as well as reforms initiated in 2014 aimed at building a prosperous, secure, and democratic Ukraine.
Since 2014, the United States has provided Ukraine more than $4.6 billion in total assistance, including security and non-security assistance. In addition, the US provided three $1 billion sovereign loan guarantees. The United States has also provided over $49 million in COVID-related assistance, including funding directed toward health and humanitarian needs.
