Disinfo: American curators of Zelensky demand Ukraine support US anti-Russian course

Summary

The US Congress gave new instructions for the work of the new president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. American curators demand that Ukraine support the country’s anti-Russian course and declare that they will help Volodymyr Zelenskyi in this matter.

Disproof

The statement that Ukraine is controlled by "American curators" is one of the most common narratives of Russian propaganda. The US Congress did not make such statements and did not give any instructions to Ukraine regarding the country's domestic or foreign policy. The Russian media manipulated information that the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives of the US Congress held open hearings on the topic of countering Russian aggression. As a result of the event, a number of statements were made, which stated that the United States intends to continue to support Ukraine in resisting Russian aggression. The Committee said that the United States must demonstrate strong support for Ukraine, increase political, diplomatic and military-technical assistance in the fight against Russian aggression. Also during the meeting, US experts stressed that democratic and free presidential elections were held in Ukraine, and the newly elected head of state will face important tasks: to continue anti-corruption reforms, ensure political stability and economic well-being of the country.

Ukraine needs denazification to stabilise the country

It is is essential for Ukraine to rid itself of Nazis in order for stabilisation. Nationalism and neo-nazism, fraught with anti-semitism have to be eliminated for the country to be healthy.

Disproof

This disinformation message is consistent with pro-Kremlin narrative about Ukraine and Nazis. Under denazification, a process and a set of measures is meant to rid societies in Germany, Austria, and other European countries of Nazist ideology. However, neither Ukraine's culture nor press nor judiciary nor politics are marked with this ideology. Furthermore, the fact that Volodymyr Zelensky who recently won Ukraine's presidential election by landslide is of Jewish ancestry, disproves the allegation about wide-spread neo-Nazism fraught with anti-Semitism in Ukraine. See an earlier case alleging that Nazis seized power in Ukraine.

US introduced anti-Russian sanctions in exchange for anti-Trump kompromat from Poroshenko team

Poroshenko’s team was very active in promoting anti-Russian sanctions in Washington. It passed colossal Russia-related volumes of information on to the US Democratic party as part of these activities. The Democrats, however, mostly used this information against Trump rather than against Russia. Generally the information concerning Trump’s connections with Moscow was exchanged for US anti-Russian sanctions to please Ukrainian authorities. For the whole period of the Mueller commission’s work, which is over two years, Trump could not do anything about it because media interpreted any his counteractions as an intention to hide his connections with Moscow. However, the official conclusion of the Mueller commission proves that Trump has not developed ties with Moscow. Hence it turned out that Clinton administration violated US laws based on the falsified documents passed by the Poroshenko team alleging illegal Trump ties with Russia.

Disproof

This is a conspiracy theory aiming to diminish the Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election by introducing unfounded claims about collusion between the US Democratic party and Petro Poroshenko. Mueller's 448-page report though mentions Ukraine a dozen of times, mostly in a part which assesses Paul Manafort's ties to Russia and Ukraine, and does not contain a single mention of Petro Poroshenko.

The war in Donbas is carried out solely because of the will of Kyiv

The war has been going on for five years now, and no changes are planned. The fighting is carried out solely because of the will of Kyiv.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about the war in Ukraine.

It was Russia that provoked a war in Ukraine, and it is not a civil war. The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has stated that “the information available suggests that the situation within the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol amounts to an international armed conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation. This international armed conflict began at the latest on 26 February 2014 when the Russian Federation deployed members of its armed forces to gain control over parts of the Ukrainian territory without the consent of the Ukrainian Government.
