DISINFO: The US pushes Lithuania to buy American gas

SUMMARY

Lithuanian’s aspiration to refuse to buy Russian gas economically is not practical. Lithuania is buying American SNG because Washington pushes it to do so. The US wants to promote its fuel in this way in the European market.

RESPONSE

Disinformation around Lithuania's LNG terminal.

Lithuania took steps to diversify its gas sector because Russia uses sources of energy as a tool of influence on other countries. The LNG terminal in Klaipeda harbour broke the Russian gas monopoly in the country and ensures Lithuania's energy security.

The US is not the only country which delivers gas to Klaipeda's LNG terminal. Since the beginning of the exploitation of terminal:

“LNG was mostly imported from Norway (78%), about 12% - from the USA, the rest from Russia, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago”.
