Disinfo: The US are preparing for nuclear weapons testing

Summary

The US are preparing for nuclear weapons testing.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on the US' nuclear ambitions. Similar cases are here and here.

The Partial Test Ban Treaty or Treaty Banning Nuclear Weapon Tests in Atmosphere, In Outer Space and Under Water was signed by the US in 1963. Treaty prohibited all test detonations of nuclear weapons except for those conducted undergrounds. Later in 1996 was signed Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty that bans all nuclear explosions, for both civilian and military purposes, in all environments. US has not ratified CNTBT, but announced a moratorium on nuclear testing in 1992.

Europe interferes into internal affairs of the neighbouring states

The European Endowment for Democracy has grown into an impressive tool for interfering in the internal affairs of “target countries”. It is an intervention, which is designed to ensure the development of social processes in these countries in the interests of the “collective West”.

Disproof

No evidence given. This message is part of a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about aggressive Western activities.

The European Endowment for Democracy is an organisation that supports local actors promoting democratic change in the European Neighbourhood and beyond. It is an independent foundation created to promote European values of freedom and democracy. Its funding comes from the EU and EU members states. See here for more information about the EED.

Ukraine buys gas in Europe for a price twice as high as its real value

Currently, the prices of gas in Europe have dropped significantly, but Ukraine has to buy it at a price twice as high, due to the requirements of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Disproof

No evidence given. Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the IMF and Ukraine.

Ukraine buys gas in Europe at public auctions. At the moment, gas prices in Europe have dropped significantly due to the warm winter in 2019. In turn, the Ukrainian company Naftogaz has reduced the price of gas by 8% for the industry, which in turn would mean lower prices for the Ukrainian citizens. Oksana Markarova, Finance Minister of Ukraine, commented that Naftogaz’s decision to lower the gas price for the population “is in line with the goal of market pricing for natural gas for all consumer categories and thus meets Ukraine’s obligations to the IMF”.

All-Russian history is highly moral as opposed to the Western one, which is full of violence and evil

An important feature of all-Russian history is respect for moral values, which denies evil and violence and does not allow other people to be insulted.

The Western history is full of these – crusades, inquisition, Jesuitism, colonialism and present-time intervention against unwanted countries are some examples. It is the high morals of all-Russian and Soviet history which will help to overcome an unworthy and anti-historical policy aimed to disengage the Belarusian and Russian peoples and to disintegrate the post-Soviet space under the pretext of Euro integration and protection of sovereignty.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory and ungrounded generalisations concerning Russian and Western history, consistent with recurring narratives about the West's moral decay and its attempts to disrupt Belarusian-Russia relations.

Clear manipulation to give a biased selection of historical events. Russian and Soviet history, just like the story of the West, can hardly be considered free of evil and violence as alleged, given, for example, the Russian conquest of the Caucasus and beyond, or Stalinism and the Great Terror.
