Disinfo: The USA will force Poland to buy more American weapons to support its struggling economy

Summary

There are increasing economic problems in the USA as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic. It means that the American lobby will exert more pressure at Poland to make it to realise next purchases of American weapons in order to support the US economy.

Disproof

A common pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on “lost sovereignty” - in the case of Poland, this country is often presented as a “puppet-state” or a “banana republic” of the United States, which fully controls the domestic and foreign policy of this country.

Poland is a sovereign state, which shapes its own foreign and domestic policies. The political, economic and military relations between Poland and the United States have mutually beneficial character. In terms of the purchase of the American F-35 fighters, the Polish authorities have repeatedly stated that they carried out tough negotiations to reach the best price for F-35. The price negotiations took place after the approval of the sale of F-35 to Poland by the US Congress.

Poland continues to tear off Ukraine and Belarus from Russia even during the pandemic

Even during the pandemic, Poland continues to look at the world through the prism of ideas of Józef Piłsudski, who dreamed about the establishment of a united Federal state in Eastern Europe in order to defend from the Russian influence. The Polish establishment has worked for the same goal since the beginning of the ’90s – it wants to include Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova into its sphere of influence.
Russia can be sure that even during the apocalypse, Poland will continue tearing off Ukraine and Belarus from her.

Disproof

This message is part of the Kremlin’s policy of historical revisionism alleging that Poland has imperialist plans for Ukraine and Belarus. The Kremlin-controlled media regularly accuses the political elites of Poland in Russophobia and implementation of anti-Russian policies.

Poland fully supports the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine and Belarus, it does not have any territorial claims against its neighbours and it rejects any “imperial” ambitions towards other countries.

EU has not presented evidence for a Russian disinformation campaign on the coronavirus

The EU has not presented any specific evidence and has not even asked Russia for any proof on its allegations. Furthermore, the “Russian threat” is a unifying factor for Western countries.

Disproof

There is a constant effort by Moscow to deny the fact that pro-Kremlin outlets are engaged in a concerted disinformation campaign aiming to expand the impact of coronavirus in the EU and its member states. This has been exposed in various media reports (see here and here).

There has also been extensive analysis of the stories and the narratives behind this effort. Some of the disinformation stories focus on promoting the narrative that coronavirus was created in a laboratory while others aim to discredit the efforts made by EU member states to contain COVID-19. Another narrative is concentrated in highlighting the cynical and selfish way some member states treated their EU partners, undermining solidarity within the Union. This ignores the significant efforts made by EU institutions in finding common solutions in the fight against coronavirus (see here and here).

The EU doesn’t provide Venezuela with humanitarian aid

Several countries provide humanitarian aid to Venezuela: China, Russia and Cuba.

The European Union or any country of the EU don’t provide any humanitarian aid, only economic sanctions, because the EU is under the diktat of the United States and has no freedom concerning its foreign policy.

Disproof

A recurring narrative about the European Union being a puppet of the United States and unable to make independent decisions on issues such as humanitarian aid and international sanctions.

Between 2016 and 2019, the European Union allocated more than €90 million in emergency humanitarian aid to assist Venezuelans in need inside the country, and those hosted in neighbouring countries. In March 2019, an additional emergency sum of €50 million was allocated. Furthermore, the EU provides Venezuela with humanitarian aid in the framework of the struggle against the new coronavirus:
