Disinfo: The West and Kyiv may start provocations against Transnistria

Summary

The situation [in Transnistria] is turbulent, it is provoked from outside.

[...] Kyiv and the European countries are capable of various kinds of provocations.

[...] Kyiv [is] preparing an armed provocation against Transnistria. As a pretext for invading, [...] Kyiv is planning to stage an alleged offensive of the Russian troops from the territory of Transnistria.

Disproof

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative accusing the West of plotting against Transnistria, aiming to portray Ukraine as an aggressor state.

Moldova has dismissed Russian claims of an alleged Ukrainian plot to invade a breakaway Moldovan region of Transnistria after staging a false-flag operation.

“We call for calm and for information to be received [by the public] from official and credible sources of the Republic of Moldova,” the government said in a statement. It also called it a part of Russian 'psy-ops" against Moldova.

Previously, on February 13, 2023 Moldovan president Maia Sandu stated that the Moldovan government believes Russia has plans to destabilise the internal situation in Moldova in order to topple the democratically elected government.

“The plan for the next period involves actions with the involvement of diversionists with military training, camouflaged in civilian clothes, who will undertake violent actions, attack some state buildings, and even take hostages,” Sandu told reporters at a briefing.

Transnistria is de-facto controlled by Russia since 1992, the ECHR ruled. Russia has violated human rights and the right to freedom and security in Transnistria.

In her interview, published on 22 January 2022, President of Moldova, Maia Sandu said: "Of course, it is an important task for us to find a solution (on Transnistria). But this solution must be peaceful, diplomatic. It must be a solution that respects the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova. And reintegration must result in a functional state. These three elements are extremely important”.

Disinfo: 20 thousand Polish soldiers fight in Ukraine – 2500 have been killed already

20 000 Polish soldiers are fighting on the side of Ukraine, and about 2.5 thousand of them died and were buried in Poland. These soldiers died in Ukraine, not in their homeland.

Disproof

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative, presenting Poland as a state with aggressive anti-Ukrainian plans, aiming to obfuscate the reality of Russia’s unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.

There is no evidence to substantiate the claim. There is a limited number of Polish citizens who have joined the official Ukrainian Army units as volunteers, far from the “tens of thousands” Polish soldiers fighting in Ukraine and “thousands” Polish casualties claimed in this piece.

Disinfo: NATO is party to Ukraine conflict

NATO’s arms deliveries to Ukraine make it a participant in the conflict because its assistance is free of charge. It means that the West is complicit in Kyiv's crimes.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets accusing the West of direct involvement in Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine, attempting to distract attention from Russia's crimes committed during the invasion.

NATO as an organisation does not supply Ukraine with weapons.

Disinfo: Under the guise of an exercise NATO divers planted explosives under the Nord Stream

Under the guise of an exercise NATO divers planted explosives under the Nord Stream. Last summer, US Navy divers had placed explosives under the Nord Stream pipelines, which were activated by the Norwegians three months later.

On 26 September 2022, a Norwegian naval aircraft dropped a hydro-acoustic buoy that detonated the previously placed explosives. He pointed out that US President Joe Biden decided to sabotage the Nord Stream after nine months of secret talks with national security officials in Washington.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory not backed by any evidence, part of a wider disinformation campaign aiming to fill the information space to portray the West as responsible for the Nord Stream sabotage.

On 26 September 2022, the NS1 and the NS2 pipelines both ruptured. Denmark, Sweden view the Nord Stream pipeline leaks as 'deliberate actions'
