Disinfo: The West demands obedience and gay prides for financial assistance

Summary

For financial assistance from the West, many governments of "independent" countries have to quickly get used to obedience and "democratic" gay pride parades in the capitals. As it was, for example, in Kyiv and Tbilisi.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Western values.

This story is in line with the recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about threatened values, which is used to undermine progressive Western attitudes about a variety of normative issues, including the rights of women, ethnic and religious minorities, and LGBTQ groups, among others. The disinformation is also consistent with narratives accusing the United States and other Western countries of meddling and attempting to forcibly impose their liberal values on countries with a strong Christian tradition.

The West's advocacy for the rights of LGBT persons is based on the principle of equal rights and dignity for all human beings.

Disinfo: Ukraine plans to set up camps to use civilians as human shields

The plans of the Ukrainian army includes setting up camps for those who would flee the battlefield. They want to use them as human shields and for information purposes to gain the attention of the international public.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation claim about the war in Ukraine, also alleging that Ukraine is Russophobic and that the Ukrainian army is preparing atrocities against ethnic Russians.

There has been no indication that the Ukrainian armed forces would set up camps, let alone, internment camps, should the hostilities escalate due to a potential Ukrainian offensive. What is more, Ukraine has never indicated that it would launch an offensive against the Donbas region.

Disinfo: Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum in March 2014

Crimea became a Russian region after a referendum was held there in March 2014, in which 96.77% of the population of Crimea and 95.6% of the population of Sevastopol voted to join Russia.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea.

No international body recognises the so-called referendum in Crimea. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution titled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. On 17 December 2018, the UN General Assembly confirmed its non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Disinfo: Litvinenko and Skripal cases are driven by Russophobia

The recent developments with the decision of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to find Russia accountable for the death of Alexander Litvinenko and with the charges against a third person for the poisoning with Novichok of Sergey and Yulia Skripal are driven by Russophobia and anti-Russian motives.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation about the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko and the Skripals.

Recently, the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) issued a decision with which it holds Russia accountable for the poisoning of Alexander Litvinenko. The court said there was a "strong presumption" that Litvinenko had been assassinated by individuals "acting as agents of the Russian state". It also added the Russian government "failed to provide any other satisfactory and convincing explanation of the events", nor did it carry out "an effective domestic investigation" aimed at identifying and punishing those responsible.
