DISINFO: The West encourages Ukraine to launch an offensive against the Donbas

SUMMARY

Not even the American, British and European support towards Ukraine can encourage Kyiv to launch a military offensive against the Donbas region because the Kremlin threatened Ukraine with crushing its statehood if such an attack happens.

RESPONSE

Frequently recurring narrative among pro-Kremlin disinformation actors.

The disinformation narrative above is aimed at proving that the military conflict between pro-Kremlin separatists in eastern Ukraine and the rest of the country is fuelled not by the Kremlin but the EU and the US.

There is no credible proof to indicate that Ukraine is preparing a large-scale offensive against the east of the country. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has repeatedly stated that he and the Ukrainian government are aiming for a comprehensive and long-standing peace agreement.

Furthermore, none of Ukraine's Western partners has ever encouraged Kyiv to initiate a military campaign to solve the Donbas crisis. Both the EU and the US have, for several times, called upon the partaking sides to stop all forms of hostilities.
