Disinfo: The West is only interested in Georgia as a weapon in the fight against Russia

Summary

For our "strategic partners," Georgia is a consumable material in the political games. Small countries are often sacrificed to the political games of large states. This is exactly the period we are facing now. The West is only interested in Georgia as a territory and this has been repeatedly confirmed. The West wants to modify Georgian legislation according to its own template, and this is because the West can change and get rid of the unwanted government whenever it desires. That is why, lately, they [the Western partners] are talking only about the coalition government, a model of government that can be overthrown at any time. That is why we are being used as one of the main weapons in the fight against Russia (and the main weapon in the region).

Disproof

A common pro-Kremlin narrative on “lost sovereignty” challenging Georgian statehood and claiming that Georgia is ruled by the West. This narrative is consistent with the recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the belligerent West trying to encircle Russia.

Georgia is not under the control of any foreign government or organisation. Both the EU and the US respect Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The EU and Georgia enjoy a good relationship based on the EU-Georgia Association Agreement including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which entered into force in July 2016 and strives for political association and economic integration. The EU is Georgia’s main trading partner, with a 27% share of its total trade in 2020. Moreover, The EU is Georgia’s largest donor and provides over €120 million of grant money annually to support Georgia’s ambitious reform agenda.

Media Development Foundation's media monitoring results revealed that the narrative that the West is meddling in the sovereign affairs of Georgia and is virtually running the country is one of the main trends of anti-Western propaganda and disinformation in the country.

Disinfo: NATO is Russophobic and threatens the mankind

It is profitable for Western nations and NATO to keep the Donbas conflict going in order to weaken Russia. The existence of NATO is a constant threat for mankind because the sense of NATO’s existence is to make war and aggression around itself and to enrich its main beneficiaries. It is important to understand that the world’s biggest military and political bloc is based on Russophobia and greed, which inevitably causes conflicts.

Disproof

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets, claiming that NATO is a hostile military bloc whose main objective is to inflict harm on Russia.

NATO is a defensive alliance, whose primary aims are to maintain peace and safeguard the independence, security and territorial integrity of its members. Moreover, NATO poses no threat to Russia. During the Warsaw summit in July 2016, NATO has made it clear that "The Alliance does not seek confrontation and poses no threat to Russia". This was also reaffirmed in the Brussels Summit Communiqué of 14 June 2021.

Disinfo: Poland should stop its anti-Belarusian propaganda and start talks with Lukashenka

Poland has tried to solve the migration crisis by many steps: it has already spent billions on the border wall, declared Belarus as an “aggressor” and created an “amusement park” at the border for celebrities. However, no one thinks about the easiest solution in this situation – it is necessary to go to Minsk and talk. Before starting the talks with Belarus, Poland should liquidate all the centres [and media] involved in the anti-Belarusian propaganda. This step will be beneficial to the reset of bilateral relations and to the situation of the Polish minority in Belarus.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about the migration situation on the EU-Belarus borders.

The situation was manufactured by Belarus as a response to EU sanctions imposed on the Lukashenka regime for its oppressive measures against the political opposition. There is plenty of evidence that the Belarusian authorities have instigated the ongoing irregular migration flows to the EU borders via Belarus.

Disinfo: NATO exercises violate the key principles of the NATO-Russia Founding Act

NATO military exercises in the Black Sea serve the aspirations of the US and its allies to strengthen the containment policy against Russia. The manoeuvres violate a key part of the Russia-NATO founding act, as NATO pledged not to "move its military infrastructure eastward, on the territory of new members.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about NATO and its military exercises.

The Founding Act on Mutual Relations, Cooperation and Security between NATO and the Russian Federation, signed in 1997, does not prohibit NATO from moving its military infrastructure eastward, on the territory of its new members.
