DISINFO: The West is trying to deprive Belarus of its sovereignty and to impose external control

SUMMARY

Belarus will never kneel before the West.

There is a constant increase in the offensive potential of the North Atlantic Alliance. In the immediate vicinity of the borders, a series of exercises by NATO troops are constantly being held. The composition of the rapid reaction forces is expanding, intelligence activities are being actively pursued. A terrorist attack on Belarus began.

The number of sanctions and restrictive measures against the [Belarusian] republic is only growing. Western countries continue to strive to establish their hegemony and do not give up their attempts to deprive us of our sovereignty and impose external control.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation claiming that the West is plotting against Belarus, using economic, political and other ways to bring it down.

Neither NATO nor the West want to bring Belarus to its knees. The only request is that the country respects the rights of its citizens and the norms of international law.

Furthermore, Western countries are not interfering, but reacting to events in Belarus, including oppression against civil society and the forced landing of Ryanair flight FR4978 in Minsk, on 23 May 2021 and its ramifications.

The EU does not recognise the falsified results of the Belarusian Presidential election on 9 August 2020, nor the new mandate claimed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

The EU member states are appealing to the Belarusian authorities to stop violence, release political prisoners and organise democratic elections in Belarus.

This decision of the new package of EU sanctions in June 2021 was made in view of the escalation of serious human rights violations in Belarus and the violent repression of civil society, democratic opposition and journalists. Moreover, seven individuals and one entity subject to this new round of restrictive measures were designated in connection to the forced and unlawful landing of flight FR4978. The goal of these sanctions is to put pressure on the Belarusian political leadership to initiate a genuine and inclusive national dialogue with broader society and to avoid further repression.
