Disinfo: The West is trying to deprive Belarus of its sovereignty and to impose external control

Belarus will never kneel before the West.

There is a constant increase in the offensive potential of the North Atlantic Alliance. In the immediate vicinity of the borders, a series of exercises by NATO troops are constantly being held. The composition of the rapid reaction forces is expanding, intelligence activities are being actively pursued. A terrorist attack on Belarus began.

The number of sanctions and restrictive measures against the [Belarusian] republic is only growing. Western countries continue to strive to establish their hegemony and do not give up their attempts to deprive us of our sovereignty and impose external control.

Recurring disinformation claiming that the West is plotting against Belarus, using economic, political and other ways to bring it down.

Neither NATO nor the West want to bring Belarus to its knees. The only request is that the country respects the rights of its citizens and the norms of international law.

Furthermore, Western countries are not interfering, but reacting to events in Belarus, including oppression against civil society and the forced landing of Ryanair flight FR4978 in Minsk, on 23 May 2021 and its ramifications.

The EU does not recognise the falsified results of the Belarusian Presidential election on 9 August 2020, nor the new mandate claimed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka.

The EU member states are appealing to the Belarusian authorities to stop violence, release political prisoners and organise democratic elections in Belarus.

This decision of the new package of EU sanctions in June 2021 was made in view of the escalation of serious human rights violations in Belarus and the violent repression of civil society, democratic opposition and journalists. Moreover, seven individuals and one entity subject to this new round of restrictive measures were designated in connection to the forced and unlawful landing of flight FR4978. The goal of these sanctions is to put pressure on the Belarusian political leadership to initiate a genuine and inclusive national dialogue with broader society and to avoid further repression.

Disinfo: Moscow was literally the only one in Europe to help Italy

Europeans have already been taught that nothing good can come from Moscow. Even when Moscow's hand was the only one in Europe extended to the Apennines as a gesture of support and assistance when Russian military doctors rescued sick Italian old people last summer.

Recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that the EU left Italy and other countries alone to fight coronavirus and that Russia was the first to help. This speculative claim about “abandoned Italy” exploits the coronavirus pandemic to push a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West's crumbling solidarity.

The narrative has been repeatedly debunked. The European Commission took multiple initiatives to help Italy and other member states deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, including support to the economy.

Disinfo: Ukraine does not exist, it is part of Russia

Unfortunately, members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) have no information, they lack basic education. Most of them do not even know that Ukraine is historically a part of Russia; they believe that it is a separate country that was oppressed by an empire.

This is a recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin media denying Ukrainian statehood.

In reality, the territory of present-day Ukraine had been divided between the Russian Empire and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire for centuries. Many new countries appeared in Europe in the wake of Russia’s Bolshevik revolution in 1917 and World War One (1914-1918), the Ukrainian People’s republic (aka the Ukrainian National Republic) being one of these. It was later occupied by Communist Russia and forcibly incorporated into the Soviet Union. Ukraine assumed its internationally recognised borders in 1991 when the USSR broke down.

Disinfo: The EU used COVID-19 pandemic to fight against Russia

The European Union was always presented as a meta-country where private rights and freedoms were at the top, but the pandemic put dots on “i”. Brussels failed to manage the pandemic on every level. Mass vaccination was the only solution the EU found. It is on one hand.

On the other hand, the EU used the fight against the pandemic for the fight against Russia. They try to discredit Sputnik V: the most effective vaccine against COVID-19 and in that way stop mass vaccination in Russia.

Despite that, Brussels allowed Hungary to buy Sputnik V, Slovakia was not allowed to go that way. When Slovakia announced that it will buy the Russian vaccine, it provoked a government crisis. The EU shows who is the master in the country. It also forced media to spread information that delivered vaccines are different to the tested samples.

Recurring disinformation about vaccinations against COVID-19 and Western prejudice against Sputnik V and its general Russophobia.

There is no political fight against any Russian vaccine, including Sputnik V. Vaccines, admitted for use on the EU market, undergo the same scrutiny irrespective of their origin. For details on the ongoing review of Sputnik V see the EMA website.
