Disinfo: The West is against Sputnik V because of competition

Summary

The negative reactions of certain Western countries against the Russian vaccine Sputnik V is a result of the competition that big pharmaceuticals companies cannot withstand from Russia in the fight against coronavirus.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West and Sputnik V vaccine.

The claim on Western and more specifically EU officials are trying to discredit the Sputnik V vaccine is unfounded and presented without evidence.

If the Russian developer wished to place their vaccine on the EU market it would have to approach the European Medicines Agency (EMA) with a request for a rolling review or a marketing authorization application, just as any other vaccine developer. So far (as of 12/01/2012) the EMA has not received an application for the sales of Sputnik V on the European market.

The EMA has already issued a conditional marketing authorization for BioNTech and Pfizer vaccine.

Assassination of John F. Kennedy and 9/11 attacks were organised by Deep State

Deep state structures were developing in the US more rapidly than in other countries. Their first stage appearance was linked to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, later they popped up in the Iran-Contra affair, and climaxed at the September 11 attacks.

Disproof

This is a mix of conspiracy theories and recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about global elites secretly ruling the world, particularly the so-called ‘Deep State’ in the United States. This narrative aims to question the legitimacy of democracy and Western institutions.

See earlier disinformation cases alleging that the US 2020 election doesn’t matter because the real ruler is the Deep State, that the “Deep State” fights with Trump, and examples of disinformation cases suggesting the US government's involvement in the 9/11 attacks.

Navalny is being helped by Western secret services

The allegation that Alexei Navalny was poisoned by actors close to the Kremlin is ridiculous. Navalny has been in connection with and is supported by US secret services.

Disproof

The latest disinformation narrative of pro-Kremlin actors surrounding the poisoning of Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny.

Navalny fell ill during a flight from Siberia to Moscow on the 20th of August. Initially hospitalised in Omsk, at the request of his family he was transferred to Charité hospital in Berlin, where clinical findings indicated that he was poisoned with a substance from the group of cholinesterase inhibitors. Subsequent toxicological tests provided unequivocal evidence of a chemical nerve agent of the Novichok group in his blood sample.

In 2021, Russia will remain the perfect scapegoat

As in 2020, accusing the Russians is going to be a leitmotiv in 2021. In his annual press conference, president Putin said that US politics turned Russia into a problem when it really isn’t one. We are seeing how they continued until the very last day with claims of an eventual Russian interference of which there is no trace.

NATO wants to generate tensions with Russia by accusing it of being a threat. Russia remains the old Soviet enemy in Washington’s mindset, and it is a comfortable enemy because, unlike terrorism, it has clear borders. When you have any problem you can always blame the Russians for it. This is the perfect excuse to maintain sanctions, to continue promoting NATO policies in Russia’s borders and to have a clear enemy.

Disproof

This is a mix of several recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about Russia as a victim of the West and about Russian innocence of any misdeed.

It is false that US policies turned Russia into a problem, that NATO wants to purposefully generate tensions with Russia or that the West tries to portray it as an enemy. Tensions with Russia heightened after it occupied Crimea and orchestrated a war in eastern Ukraine in 2014, and interfered in the US elections as well as in other electoral processes in the years afterwards. Contrary to the claim, there is massive evidence of Russian interference in the US elections both in 2016 and in 2020. Sanctions were imposed on Russia for all these reasons.
