DISINFO: The whole of Donbas will join Russia

SUMMARY

Emigration [from Donbas] can only be solved if the two people's republics join Russia. (...) The Kyiv-controlled parts of Donbas will also join Russia.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative aimed at doubting Ukraine's authority over Donbas.

There has been no evidence to suggest that the population of the Donbas region as a whole would opt to join Russia to unite in one country. Public opinion from the Kremlin-supported and rebel-controlled Donetsk and Luhansk regions lack critical data, while the latest survey concerning the territorial belonging of the Donbas region shows that the majority of its residents reject the unlawful authority of the Kremlin-supported forces in the east of the country.

See a similar case here with unsubstantiated claims concerning the situation of the Donbas after the Russian constitutional referendum in 2020.
