Disinfo: This Canadian report indicts the US with spreading Coronavirus

Summary

The United States may inadvertently stand behind the emergence of the COVID-19 virus in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

A report published by Canada’s GlobalResearch.ca made clear that last summer, the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention ordered the closure of a major military biological laboratory at Fort Detrick, Maryland, in anticipation of possible leaks.

Five of the Americans participating in the Military World Games competitions hosted by Wuhan last October were infected with an undefined infection.

Disproof

Conspiracy theory about the 2019-nCoV coronavirus. There is no evidence to suggest that the virus is being used as a weapon against other states or that is has been fabricated inside laboratories. The narratives also resemble a recurring conspiracy theory about the Lugar Lab in Georgia.

The coronavirus comes from a family of viruses originating in animals that include the common cold and viruses such as SARS and MERS. The expert scientific consensus holds that the coronavirus has natural origins; there is no credible evidence supporting claims of laboratory engineering.

In August 2019, a US Army laboratory at Fort Detrick, Maryland that studies deadly infectious material and cures for diseases such as Ebola and smallpox was shut down for a period of time after a Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) inspection that occurred in June, and was partially reopened in December, and is now helping in the fight against COVID-19.

The suspension was due to multiple causes, including failure to follow local procedures and a lack of periodic recertification training for workers in the biocontainment laboratories. The wastewater decontamination system of the lab also failed to meet standards set by the Federal Select Agent Programme.

Apart from the American soldiers, there were in fact 17 teams with over 280 athletes and staff from different countries and nations participating in the Military World Games that was held from October 18-27, 2019 in the capital of Hubei Province in Wuhan. The coronavirus started to spread 65 days after the closing ceremony of the Military World Games, and so far there is no evidence to prove any connection between the two events.

The Pentagon has had confirmed cases and is bracing for more to emerge, but “no illnesses have been tied to American service members” in the period that followed the Military World Games.

COVID-19 epidemic is fake, it is manufactured by media

We do not have a coronavirus epidemic. It does not exist anywhere in the world. This is a fake produced by WHO the fourth time in the last 20 years. The first fake epidemic was with SARS, which was also caused by the coronavirus. The second fake pandemic was bird flu. The third fake pandemic was swine flu. Now we are dealing with the fourth fake pandemic, which has no justification from a medical point of view. This is a media epidemic.

Disproof

An unfounded conspiracy theory, sharing a recurrent pro-Kremlin narrative about the COVID-19 outbreak. It also aims to discredit actions taken by the WHO and individual countries to stop the spread of the new disease.

COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the World Health Organisation on 11 March, acknowledging that the virus had become a global phenomenon. Before that date, the situation was being described as an epidemic, illustrating that the virus had already spread to many people, and many communities, at the same time. As of 14 April, the total number of COVID-19 cases had passed 1.7 million.

EU is only helping Ukraine to fight coronavirus with words

Volodymyr Zelenskyy calls up Merkel, discusses the Donbas and the fight against the virus, and asks for help. However, he realises that they can only help Ukraine with words. But perhaps it’s important for him to show that Europe is still with Ukraine.

Disproof

The recurring Kremlin disinformation narrative about 'abandoned' Ukraine, disintegration of the European Union.

The EU is continuing to support Ukraine even in the face of the global crisis caused by the pandemic. The first support package for Ukraine for the pandemic is approximately €80 million to support the health system. The EU will help address social issues: help older people, online education, child care and providing credit support to small and medium-sized businesses.

No Russian soldiers in Donbas

Former U.S ambassadors to Ukraine suggested on the site of the NPR that in the context of the coronavirus Russia could be pressured to give back Crimea to Ukraine and stop the conflict in Donbas. The Kremlin noted that Russia has no reason to leave the territory of the Donbas because it has never been there.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine.

The EU has condemned clear violation of Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity by acts of aggression by the Russian armed forces since February 2014.
