DISINFO: Ukraine became a colony of the United States

SUMMARY

Ukraine has already become a colony of the United States, so all decisions for Ukraine are made not even by Washington, but by the acting ambassador of the United States in Kyiv.

RESPONSE

Recurring disinformation narrative widely promoted by pro-Kremlin media about the ”foreign control” of Ukraine. See here a case claiming that the current president of Ukraine gave the governance of the country to the US and France.

The statement is made in the context of Moldovan elections, advising Moldova not to repeat Ukraine’s "mistake".

Since 16 July 1990, when adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty, Ukraine is an independent and sovereign state. It has democratically elected state institutions, including Parliament and President, who take all the decisions regarding state governance.

The US have a strategic partnership with Ukraine. The US secretary Antony J. Blinken, who visited Ukraine on May 6, 2021, stated that “The United States stands firmly behind the sovereignty and the territorial integrity of Ukraine”.
