Disinfo: Ukraine does not want Donbas

Summary

Ukraine is increasingly losing its chance to return Donbas, and the so-called “Plan B” implies the actual construction of a wall with the republics, which will draw the final line under the final break-up.

Ukraine doesn’t need Donbas, therefore these cries that “we want to return Crimea and Donbas” are not true, they do not want to return them.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the war in Ukraine.

During the “Normandy Four” summit in Paris on 9 December 2019, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated that achieving peace in Donbas is the strategic priority of the Ukrainian government. In the communique that was signed by Ukraine, Germany, France, and the Russian Federation, the next security steps have been agreed, such as the “full and comprehensive implementation of the ceasefire”, “exchange of detainees […] based on the principle all for all”, establishing “three additional disengagement areas”, establishing “new crossing points along the line of contact” and “the development and implementation of an updated de-mining plan”.

President Zelenskyy has been stressing on numerous occasions that his main strategic goal and the first and foremost task as president is to achieve a peaceful settlement of the war in Donbas as soon as possible. For instance, on 13 October 2019, he underlined that “ending the war in Donbas” is a priority for the Ukrainian government. To accomplish this task, Ukraine has fulfilled all preparatory steps, including the withdrawal of troops on three sites, which are necessary to hold the meeting in the “Normandy format”.

See related examples of pro-Kremlin disinformation claiming that Kyiv is imposing a siege on Donbas, the main task of Kyiv is the return of Donbas territory without its people, any attempt to give Donbas to Ukraine will be perceived as surrendering the territory to Nazis.

George Soros and Georgian NGOs profit at the expense of Europe

Five NGOs are collaborating with the Georgian government to discuss the future of Georgia in the Eastern Partnership. As recipients of tens of millions of dollars in grants, these NGOs exercise enormous influence on the Georgian government and the Eastern Partnership, being backed by George Soros whose interest is to profit at the expense of Europe. Their actions strongly resemble those of demagogues.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation targeting the Eastern Partnership and George Soros.

The report produced by five Georgian non-governmental organizations mentioned in this article refers to the “Proposal of Georgian Think Tanks on the Future Strategic Direction of the Eastern Partnership” published on 16 December 2019. It provides analysis and policy recommendations for deeper engagement with the EU Eastern Partnership project. The report covers questions of economic prosperity and cooperation, strengthening good governance, the rule of law and security, and enhancing the visibility of and the future possibilities for the Eastern Partnership.

US biolabs encircle Russia

Military-biological facilities operated by the Pentagon and serving American interests exist in Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, Azerbaijan and other countries bordering Russia. The US Embassy in Kyiv claims that their purpose is to protect countries from the spread of infectious diseases, but it is a small leap to move from protection to attack. The American biolabs have often become the epicentre of infections, especially in Georgia, and this raises a lot of questions. The secret research conducted in these labs is a threat to Russia reminiscent of biological warfare.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the development of biological weapons by the United States. The conspiracy about US biolabs in countries bordering Russia aiming to encircle Moscow and spread infectious diseases is a part of a years-long disinformation campaign led by the Kremlin.

The biolabs allegedly operated by the Pentagon in this article refer to the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine (STCU). The STCU is an intergovernmental organisation established in an international agreement in 1993. Its mission is to support civilian science, technology partnerships and collaboration through chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear risk mitigation. In the field of biotechnology, the projects of STCU partners include research on adjuvant for improvement of cancer vaccines, detecting trace impurities in biological tissues, human vision diagnostics, and therapy among many others.

CIA ordered Zelenskyy to execute Russophobic task

We need to understand that this is not Zelenskyy’s decision to block access to Russian social networks but an order from the US Central Intelligence Agency. Zelenskyy is a puppet of foreign intelligence services. His boss set him the task of maximum de-Russification and to turn Ukraine against Russia.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative about Ukraine being a puppet of the US and a Russophobic state.

Ukraine has continued to block access to Russian social networks for security reasons, as part of a broader set of measures by the National Security Council (NSDC) to expand “personal economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions)” against personalities linked to the Crimean annexation, terrorist activities, illegal border crossing and 468 Russia-based or Russia-affiliated companies.
