Disinfo: Ukraine focusing on refusing “Sputnik V” instead of saving lives

Ukraine’s refusal to adopt the Russian “Sputnik V” vaccine against the Coronavirus is due to Kyiv’s efforts to satisfy “Western supervisors” instead of focusing on the lives of its citizens.

Relations between Moscow and Kyiv are experiencing great tension against the backdrop of the crisis that erupted in Ukraine in 2014, which led to a change of power in the country, an outbreak of an armed conflict in the Donbas region, and the return of the Crimean peninsula to the Russian motherland.

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about the coronavirus pandemic and alleged supervision from the US/ West in addition to a recurring narrative about Ukrainian statehood.

The claim that Ukraine's refusal of any Russian-made vaccine is due to it "satisfying Western supervisors" has no factual base.

The main reason for this step goes back to Russia being a “state-aggressorin relation to the occupied Crimea, the city of Sevastopol and certain areas of Donbas. This article also contains a recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea, claiming that it has rejoined Russia, following the covert invasion by “little green men”, through a legal referendum that the EU and UN do not recognise. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, even admitted that the plan to annex Crimea was ordered weeks before the so-called referendum.

Regarding the comment about Ukraine 'not saving lives', President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Kyiv had secured 20 million vaccine doses from the global COVAX scheme, from China, from India and from the EU and the government hopes to start vaccinating its population of 41 million in mid-February.

See other similar examples in our database claiming that WHO and Microsoft sabotaged the Russian vaccine; that Europe is turning to Russia due to its desperate need for a vaccine; or that rejection of Sputnik V is a planned operation to kill Ukrainians; or that it’s better for Ukrainians to die than to be saved by cheap Russian vaccine.

US billionaires can isolate the US president from the world

… financial funds or billionaires themselves control the main media and American social networks, which can isolate the President of the United States of America from the American society and the world with the click of a button.

The message is consistent with the broad pro-Kremlin narrative that seeks to discredit democratic societies by painting the latter as totalitarian systems that want to persecute anyone who expresses views that are different from the dominant way of thinking.

In fact, the recent decision by internet companies against former American President Donald Trump is a response to disinformation and crimes that might be contained within the speech itself. A good example is incitement and this is what happened when Trump actually "ordered" his supporters to march to the Capitol on January 6th.

BlackRock and State Street called for an LGBT representative, according to Bloomberg

According to Bloomberg, … BlackRock, … and State Street … have requested the companies in which they invest to prove the presence of some representatives of the LGBT community among their employees.

This is a distortion of the original Bloomberg article, titled “BlackRock to Push Companies on Racial Diversity in 2021”.

According to the article, BlackRock Inc., the world’s largest asset manager, plans to push companies for greater ethnic and gender diversity for their boards and workforces, because “an inclusive, diverse and engaged workforce contributes to business continuity, innovation, and long-term value creation”.

Ukraine will never be admitted to NATO

Ukraine will remain an aspirant country but will never be admitted to NATO. One of the reasons why Ukraine won’t be a NATO member is that the West does not want to aggravate relations with Russia.

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine and its cooperation with NATO.

Ukraine is a strategic partner for NATO in many areas. Since the 1990s, relations between NATO and Ukraine have developed into one of NATO’s most influential partnerships. Relations were strengthened with the signing of the 1997 Charter on a Distinctive Partnership, which established the NATO-Ukraine Commission (NUC). The Declaration of 2009 to Complement the NATO-Ukraine Charter mandated the NUC, through Ukraine’s Annual National Programme, to underpin Ukraine’s efforts to take forward reforms aimed at implementing Ukraine’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations.
