DISINFO: Ukraine has no chance of survival if it tries to fight Russia
SUMMARY
The attacks against the energy infrastructure of Okraina (a.k.a. Ukraine) are necessary. It is the military answer to military actions. It is a message for Zelenskyy, if you will try to fight Russia your country will be totally destroyed. Zelenskyy must listen to this message otherwise if Russia starts the fight at full strength Ukraine will have no chance of surviving.
RESPONSE
Disinformation about the war in Ukraine.
In the original article, Ukraine is referred to as “Okraina” (“outskirts” in Russian). It correlates with the Kremlin-backed version claiming that the name of the state Ukraine originally means “outskirts of the state” (“outskirts of Russia”). Ukraine challenge this.
The article tries to portray Ukraine as an aggressor who wants to fight Russia. In reality, Ukraine is defending its independence and sovereignty against Russia's war of agression. The war began in 2014 with Russia's illegal annexation of Crimea and Russia's military involvement and support of separatists in Donbas and accelerated with the full-scale invasion since 24 February 2022. Russia’s protracted invasion of Ukraine is unprovoked and unjustified.
The recent attacks against Ukraine's energy infrastructure are not legal military action. The President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen described Russia’s attacks on the energetic and civilian infrastructure of Ukraine as an “act of pure terror”.
On the 23 November 2022, the European Parliament passed a resolution labeling Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism. As this body has argued, the deliberate attacks and atrocities committed by Russian forces and their proxies against civilians in Ukraine, the destruction of civilian infrastructure and other serious violations of international and humanitarian law amount to acts of terror and constitute war crimes. In light of this, MEPs recognise Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and as a state that “uses means of terrorism”. A similar position represented by the US, Pentagon defined Moscow’s actions as a war crime.
Ukraine has successfully fought against Russian aggression. The Ukrainian army has recently liberated some territories previously seized by Russia, including Izium and Kherson.
