DISINFO: Ukraine is moving from external control to full submission to the interests of the United States

SUMMARY

Ukraine is moving from external control to full submission to the interests of the United States.

Apparently, Ukraine is moving from external control to complete subordination to the interests of the United States, and more specifically the Biden family, its commercial interest is more than understandable in a weak-willed, powerless country.

RESPONSE

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about Ukraine being under "external control." See similar cases here claiming that Ukraine is a colony, governed by a puppet regime, and here a claim about how Ukraine "sold its self to external control".

The statement refers to the visit, on May 6, 2021, to Kyiv of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Victoria Nuland, the under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, who met with the Ukrainian President and other officials.

The claim is unsubstantiated. Ukraine has a partnership with both the EU and the United States. According to the State Department web page, U.S. Government assistance to Ukraine aims to support the development ”of a secure, democratic, prosperous, and free Ukraine, fully integrated into the Euro-Atlantic community”. There is no reason to believe that Ukraine is being forced to complete subordination to American interests.

Ukraine is a sovereign and independent state with a democratically-elected president and parliament. The country is not controlled by the US or any other foreign government or organisation. Both the EU and the US respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
