Disinfo: Ukraine is ruled by external forces

Summary

Ukraine is governed by the interests of other forces: Russian, American and European.

Disproof

No evidence given. Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on the EU and US relations with Ukraine.

Ukraine is an independent, sovereign state. No country is controlling Ukraine. The EU-Ukraine and US-Ukraine relations are built on the basis of equality, freedom, and independence. Ukraine builds its relations with other countries in accordance with the requirements of international law.

In June 2014, EU and Ukraine signed An Association Agreement, including a Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA), which promotes deeper political ties, stronger economic links and the respect for common values.

The current government in Ukraine was elected following elections held in 2014, which were recognised as legal and democratic by the observers. The Presidential elections were "largely in line with international commitments and fundamental freedoms," ODIHR's report states.

Neutral Sweden blowing up Russian threats to sell arms

Despite its formally neutral status, Sweden is once again attempting to exaggerate Russia’s military might. Already in the seventies, Sweden started look for Russian submarines, without ever finding any. Sweden is a large arms producer, and all the noise about “Russian threats” is the defence industry’s and the military’s way of increasing funding and raise profits.

Disproof

Sweden is not "formally neutral", but is observing a policy of non-alignment. More on Swedish foreign policy here.

A Soviet submarine ran aground, close to a Swedish naval base on Swedish territorial waters in 1981. Since an incident in 1982, Sweden has not formally charged Russia with violations of its territorial waters.

Russian interference in US elections: the inquiry finds no direct evidence

After two years of investigation, Democrats and Republicans of the US Senate’s Intelligence Committee agreed that they have not discovered any direct evidence of Russian conspiracy in Donald Trump’s campaign. Two years of investigation, 200 interviews of witnesses, investigators from the US Senate Intelligence Committee, working to rule on possible Russian interference in the US presidential campaign, have failed, CBS news reported.

Disproof

RT forwards claims, not supported by the CBS report. It only mentions the chairman of the Intelligence Committee, Republican Richard Burr's personal estimation, which does not match the views of the co-chairman of the Committee, Democratic senator Marc Warner.

In addition, the US Justice Department has charged 12 Russian intelligence officers with hacking Democratic officials in the 2016 US elections. Previously, 13 Russian citizens as well as the Internet Research Agency, Concord Management and Concord Catering had been charged with interfering with the US political system.

Ukraine is puppet of the West in the geopolitical game against Russia

The West is not interested in the welfare of the Ukrainian people. Kyiv serves as a puppet in the geopolitical game against Russia.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation about the relationship between the West and Ukraine.

Ukraine is recognised in international law as a sovereign nation state, with its own flag, nationality, language etc. UNGA Resolution 68/262 also affirmed the General Assembly's commitment to the territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders.
