Disinfo: Ukraine was interested in the war in Donbas because Poroshenko would not have won the 2014 election

Summary

Kyiv was interested in escalation in 2014. It was interested in the rallies, in adding fuel to the fire. It was interested in sending to the Donbas the "trains of friendship" and, ultimately, the regular army and brigades of armed offenders. This was done deliberately because they did not need Donbas. Donbas and Crimea used to ruin the plans of Galicia [to rule the country]. If there was no war and our referendums, then Poroshenko could not have been President.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative on the war in Ukraine and its causes.

Ukraine was not interested in the pro-Russian movements in Eastern Ukraine in spring 2014. There is irrefutable evidence that the protests were orchestrated by the pro-Russian forces in Ukraine and the Kremlin. The military clashes started when on 12 April 2014 a group of armed people from Russia headed by former GRU officer Igor Girkin ("Strelkov") seized governmental buildings in Sloviansk and Kramatorsk in Donetsk oblast. In response to these actions, the Ukrainian government announced an anti-terrorist operation.

The Ukrainian government was not interested in excluding Crimea and Donbas from Ukraine in order to gain political results. The results of the 2014 Presidential election show that there was popular support throughout Ukraine to a new President, Petro Poroshenko, who won the elections in a single round, receiving 54.7% of votes. He won the elections in all electoral districts in Ukraine (including the ones located in Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts), except one in Kharkiv oblast.

Disinfo: Western double standards ignore coups in Belarus and Ukraine, and popular will in Crimea

For Western double standards, the opinion of 2.5 million people in Crimea is worthless, it seems. We are reaching a point where even such flagrant actions as the coup attempt in Belarus or the Western-backed coup that took place in Ukraine are silenced by their press and political class. It is remarkable that such indignant actions as the recently divulged attempt to organise a coup in Belarus and murder the president of this country are not condemned by the Western community.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the illegal annexation of Crimea, Euromaidan and Belarus.

No international body recognises the so-called referendum in Crimea. The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution entitled “Territorial integrity of Ukraine”, stating that the referendum in Crimea was not valid and could not serve as a basis for any change in the status of the peninsula. On 17 December 2018, the UN General Assembly confirmed its non-recognition of the illegal annexation of Crimea.

Disinfo: Sweden is getting rid of AstraZeneca vaccine under the disguise of philantrophy

Sweden is getting rid of AstraZeneca vaccine under the disguise of philantropy.

The Swedish government plans to donate one million doses of the scandal-ridden vaccine AstraZeneca to the international initiative Covax. This declaration was proudly delivered by the Swedish cabinet minister for international cooperation, Per Olsson Fridh.

After several cases, reported in media about an unsual but common side-effect of trombosis after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine, it has become all harder to convince patients to accept the vaccine. Occasionally there has been a need to hide the name of the name of the vaccine, to punish patients for refusing a shot and to destroy unused doses. Nothing has helped.

Disproof

An unfounded claim, perpetuating pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about vaccines.

Sweden has announced its support the COVAX project, an international effort to provide vaccine to vulnerable countries. One million doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine will be at WHOs disposal for the project.

Disinfo: The OSCE is a criminal organisation that in favour of war in Donbas

With the same ease with which it orders an attack that kills a child, Kyiv activates the 2011 Vienna Document of the Organisation for the Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) on Confidence- and Security-Building Measures, for Moscow to “clarify the significant increase of the military presence of the Russian Federation along the border with Ukraine” inside the Russian territory.

OSCE tries not to publish honest data on the situation in Donbas, which would show how many citizens and civilian facilities were affected by the conflict, and that in most cases Kyiv attacks and militias respond.

OSCE, one of the most ridiculous and useless institutions that we could see in the last years, is in Donbas and it looks that it doesn’t see anything. But since that is not possible, because they are not stupid, what they are doing is hiding it. The OSCE in favour of war. It is a criminal organisation that must be dissolved.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about war in Ukraine and OSCE.

The OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine publishes daily reports on the situation, and there is no basis for the claim that the organisation is trying to hide its data. The Russian Federation, in fact, is a member state of OSCE since its foundation. The claim about the death of a child in an attack by Kyiv forces is false, since it was the result of an accident with explosives or old ammunition. See here for our previous debunk of the incident.
