According to the Acting Minister of Energy Olha Buslavets, Ukraine entered the 2020 heating season with record fuel reserves. Coal reserves in warehouses are about 3 million tonnes. This is three times more than the previous year (2019). The gas reserves in the PCG are 26 billion cubic metres.
"Electric power equipment and infrastructure equipment is being prepared. I am sure that we will get through the heating season without problems", Buslavets said.
In November 2015, Kyiv refused to purchase gas from the Russian monopolist Gazprom. At the moment, all the gas used by Ukraine is acquired exclusively on its western borders.
The agreement between Naftogaz and Gazprom was reached at the end of December 2019. Gazprom paid Naftogaz about $3 billion in compensation for neglecting the terms of the previous contract for gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transport system to the European Union. It is on this key issue that Naftogaz previously won a trial against Gazprom.
