DISINFO: Ukrainian independence is a fake, it is a decoration and a Potemkin village

SUMMARY

Independence of Ukraine is a prop, a Potemkin village, some kind of decoration. Against this backdrop, what are we going to celebrate [on 24 August]? False independence, because, unfortunately, there is no real one. They lost it.

RESPONSE

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation concerning Ukrainian statehood, claiming that Ukraine is a failed state.

Ukraine is an independent, sovereign country. Its independence and territorial integrity are respected by the whole world but were violated by Russia. Ukraine, as an independent country, has a functioning government and economy, it is a member of many international organisations, such as the United Nations and the Council of Europe, and a party to international agreements. Ukraine has bilateral diplomatic relations with the majority of countries.

On 24 August, Ukraine will be celebrating its 30th anniversary of independence.

See similar disinformation cases in our database: Ukraine never had independence before joining the Soviet Union; Ukrainians and Kazakhs did not exist as ethnic groups before the USSR; Ukraine is not a sovereign country and it should stay that way; after the Maidan coup in Ukraine, the country turned into an Afghanistan-like country and lost its sovereignty.
