Ukrainian oligarchs will divide Ukraine into principalities

Summary

Ukrainian oligarchs are likely to attempt to divide Ukraine into principalities where they will enjoy absolute power.

Disproof

This is consistent with pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine's imminent disintegration and corruption. Despite the advantaged positions that some oligarchs enjoy in Ukraine, there is no grounding to support the claim that the country will disintegrate into "oligarchic principalities", as alleged in the case above.

Ukrainian authorities are controlled by Washington and each presidential candidate coordinates with the US

In Ukraine, each presidential candidate coordinates his or her actions either with an American ambassador or with the US State Department directly. As a result, Washington does not even need to interfere in the local monkey business. However, at some point, the US may decide that the local games went too far and start threatening US strategic interests. In this case, Ukrainian authorities will begin receiving direct orders from Washington.

Disproof

This message contains recurring disinformation narratives about Western meddling in Ukraine's elections through US control over presidential candidates and about Ukraine as a state under foreign control.

Whereas disinformation statements about Western, US and EU control over Ukraine are most frequent, at times Israel and individual EU member states such as Germany are claimed to be the controlling parties.

With Zelenskiy as president, governance by terrorism will continue in Ukraine

After the coup in Ukraine in 2014, a regime of terror was established. Given the radical political preferences of the Ukrainian population, Volodymyr Zelenskiy does not need to initiate any substantial changes. Hence, the system of governance by terrorism will continue in Ukraine.

Disproof

This is a recurring pro-Kremlin narrative about an alleged Western-backed coup d'etat in Ukraine in 2014.

In reality, the spontaneous onset of the Euromaidan protests was a reaction by numerous segments of the Ukrainian population to former President Yanukovych’s violent dispersal of peaceful student protests against Yanukovych's sudden decision to withdraw from the Association Agreement with the European Union in November 2013.

A clash of civilizations prompted a domestic military conflict in Ukraine

A clash of civilizations prompted a domestic military conflict in Ukraine. The confrontation between Orthodox Slavic and Western Christian civilizations has been manifest in the Ukrainian society. A civilizational factor as a catalyst of domestic military conflict in Ukraine is often overlooked or put in doubt. Ukraine’s federalization could soften the negative impact of the civilizational factor, however this scenario was not supported by either the West or Ukrainian oligarchs.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives about the war in Ukraine and Ukrainian statehood.

It was Russia that provoked a war in Ukraine, and it is not a civil war or 'domestic military conflict' as the disinformation message alleges.

The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has stated that “the information available suggests that the situation within the territory of Crimea and Sevastopol amounts to an international armed conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.  This international armed conflict began at the latest on 26 February 2014 when the Russian Federation deployed members of its armed forces to gain control over parts of the Ukrainian territory without the consent of the Ukrainian Government.
