Ukrainian ships seized in the Kerch Strait were gifted by the USA

Summary

Two Ukrainian ships seized by Russia in the Kerch Strait were gifted to Ukraine by the US.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation on Ukraine and Azov Sea.

The seized boats have been identified as Gyurza-M-class artillery boats, which are manufactured by the Kyiv-based Kuznya na Rybalskomu ship building and armament firm.

The US has provided Ukraine with two Island-class patrol boats, as a form of military aid.

For background:

On November 25 border patrol boats belonging to Russia’s FSB security service seized two small Ukrainian armoured artillery vessels and their crews after shooting at them, wounding several Ukrainian servicemen. Russia argued that they were in Russian waters.

However a bilateral treaty between Russia and Ukraine, signed in 2003 and ratified by Russia in 2004, governs the use of the Kerch strait and the Sea of Azov, which in the treaty is considered to be the “internal waters” of both Russia and Ukraine.

The construction of the Kerch Bridge took place without Ukraine's consent and constitutes a violation of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. It has led, in parallel with the militarisation of the Azov Sea, to tougher controls on naval traffic in the strait. The European Union stated that it expects  Russia to stop the inspections.

Ukrainians will be deprived of syringes and bandages

The Ukrainian authorities will deprive their citizens of medical supplies, such as syringes and bandages. The Ukrainian pharmacies will no longer be allowed to sell such materials. The population will be left without pharmacies.

Disproof

In fact, the Ukrainian law on Medicines will be updated with few changes which will reinforce control and quality of the provided services. It is not mentioned that Ukrainian pharmacies will not longer be able to sell medical supplies.

Ukrainian Government to ban school education

Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine wants to replace secondary education with homeschooling and pedagogical patronage. The teachers are fleeing into Russia, Belarus and EU.

Such initiatives prove a collapse of the general educational system in Ukraine, since the state does not have enough funds to support a large number of schools.

Disproof

No evidence given.

In fact, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine intends to add alternative forms of education. At the moment, the Ukrainian law “On General Secondary Education” mentions only two forms of education: general and external studies. According to the proposed modifications, it would include also homeschooling and pedagogical patronage. These modifications are not meant to replace the school education, but to help children who have special educational needs. The Ukrainian Government has increased school funding over the past years.
