Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Lithuania and events of January 13, 1991 in Vilnius.

On January 13th Lithuania commemorates the night in 1991 when Soviet forces attempted to crush the re-established independence, killing 14 civilians. Lithuania proclaimed independence in March 1990. Moscow tried to foil the secession with an economic blockade. When that proved ineffective, Soviet troops still garrisoned in the capital Vilnius attacked its TV broadcast tower and sole TV station, killing civilians standing as human shields there. The events of the January 13th, 1991, and the offences committed by the USSR troops have been extensively documented.

On the 27 of March, 2019 the regional court in Vilnius found Dmitry Yazov, former Soviet defence minister, and more than 60 other former Soviet officers guilty of war crimes and crimes against humanity for their involvement in Soviet aggression in Lithuania on January 13, 1991. Read more here.

Disinfo: Many Estonian politicians want to ban Russian media and the Russian language in Estonia

The president of the Estonian Parliament is apparently inspired by his success in the fight against Sputnik Estonia employees.

Many Estonian politicians, including the president of the Estonian Parliament, want to ban Russian media and the Russian language in Estonia.

Disproof

Recurrent Russian disinformation narrative that portrays Baltic states as dictatorial regimes that practice discrimination against their Russian minorities and that accuse Estonia in particular of oppressing Russian media and of currently persecuting Sputnik Estonia.

The claim of the Russian government that Estonia is restricting the content of the local Sputnik branch and obstructing media freedom is not true. As Dmitry Kiselyov, the Director-General of Rossiya Segodnya (the parent company of Sputnik Estonia), is on the list of sanctioned persons, Sputnik Estonia has been affected.

Disinfo: To this day Ukraine is hiding evidence in the tragedy of flight MH17

To this day Ukraine is hiding evidence against itself in the tragedy of the downed Malaysian Boeing, which was shot over the Ukrainian territory during the active phase of the civil war in Donbas.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the downing of the flight MH17 and a repeated attempt to discredit Joint International Investigation. The Dutch-led Joint Investigation Team (JIT) has concluded that flight MH17 was shot down on 17 July 2014 by a missile of the 9M38 series, launched by a BUK-TELAR, from farmland in the vicinity of Pervomaiskiy (or: Pervomaiskyi). At that time, the area was controlled by pro-Russian fighters. The BUK-TELAR was brought in from the territory of the Russian Federation and subsequently, after having shot down flight MH17, was taken back to the Russian Federation. The Dutch-led Joint Investigation Team (JIT), has concluded that the BUK-TELAR used to down MH17, originates from the 53rd Anti Aircraft Missile brigade, a unit of the Russian army from Kursk in the Russian Federation. On the basis of the investigation conducted by the JIT the Dutch Public Persecution service will persecute 4 individuals for causing the crash of the MH17 and murdering of 289 persons on board. The disinformation message also includes recurring pro-Kremlin narrative portraying acts of aggression by Russian armed forces as civil war in Ukraine.
