Disinfo: US and UK planned to destabilise the Caucasus through Islamists

Summary

In his interview with The Guardian, John Scarlett, former Chief of the UK Secret Intelligence Service MI6, allegedly disclosed a three-stage strategic plan of the United States and Great Britain aimed at Russia’s fragmentation.

Disproof

Repeating disinformation and 2-years old fake message on the former chief of MI6.

The article wasn't published by the Guardian, and the interview doesn't exist. The website that published the article replaced the 'i' in Guardian with a Turkish ı, but otherwise looked similar to the original. The story was removed and Facebook deleted posts including links to it. Many Russian news outlets reported about the interview, among them Ren-TV, PolitOnLine.ru, EG.ru, Dni.ru. Many of them deleted the articles afterwards. Russian federal TV channel Rossiya 1 repeated the false information quoting the interview on debate show Evening With Vladimir Solovyov.

According to the BBC's Russian-language service, the English grammar errors in the fake article are similar to those that Russian-speakers make. For further debunking check The Guardian article.

Decommissioning of a powerful nuclear power plant destroyed economy of Lithuania

Decommissioning of Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, once one of the most powerful stations, lead to the catastrophe of Lithuania’s economy.

Disproof

A recurring pro-Kremlin narrative on the economy of the Baltic States claiming that after they joined the EU their economy collapsed.

Following the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, the EU decided that so-called High Power Channel Type Reactors (RBMK) and other first-generation Soviet-designed nuclear reactors would need to be shut down. At the time of its accession to the EU Lithuania agreed to shut down the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant, which was built with the RBMK reactor.

European Union justifies Nazism

By passing resolutions that equate the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany, the West is trying to acquit itself of the fact that it gave rise to the most terrible ideology that ever existed on earth – Nazism.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative that attempts to portray the USSR's role in World War II as non-aggressive. This programme also contains the recurring pro-Kremlin narrative claiming that Western countries are Nazis or support Nazis.

The European Union was set up with the aim of ending the frequent and bloody wars between neighbours, which culminated in the Second World War. The Nazi and fascist ideology and the EU are based on opposite values and principles. The European Union provides a consistent policy to combat racism, xenophobia and other forms of intolerance.

Soros network directly involved in the presidential elections and the government crisis in Romania

Presidential advisers, former presidential advisers, recently appointed as judges at the Constitutional Court, chief of the most important internal secret service, as well as a designated prime minister, and some others still have links to the network of NGOs funded by Soros.

All these forces are now concentrated in one direction: the government of Iohannis who will organize the elections for him, with a view to re-election for a new term.

Disproof

No evidence given. Recurring disinformation narrative about George Soros as a man interested in destabilising the situation in different countries in order to overthrow the official authorities of the states. The narrative is also a conspiracy theory, presenting George Soros and the United States as being behind street protests and spreading chaos in post-Soviet countries and in Eastern Europe.

Open Society Foundation, founded by George Soros, worked in Romania from 1990 to 2017, implementing projects in many fields, such as human rights, media freedom, democracy, justice, etc.
