DISINFO: US Elections are clash of straight people and homosexuals

SUMMARY

The 2020 Presidential elections in the United States are an ultimate battle between white, straight people, as well as homosexuals, transgenders and people of colour.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation about the United States in the context of the 2020 presidential elections.

The article was aimed at discrediting now President-Elect Joe Biden by alleging that his presidency marks the end of white and straight people in the country, as well as at downgrading the Presidential race to an alleged culture war.

While the pluralist democracy in the US, which consists of the centre-right Republican Party and the centre-left Democratic Party, is a political standoff between conservative-minded and liberal-minded politicians, the election was neither about nor focused on "pro-LGBT forces" who aim to diminish white and straight people.

Strengthening societal divisions is recurring element of pro-Kremlin disinformation the aim of which is to portray Russia as the defender of "traditional culture" against the West. A key part of this disinformation strategy to escalate tensions between people of different colour and sexuality. Earlier examples include how pro-Kremlin media envisaged a potential civil war in the US after the so-called George Floyd protests.
