Disinfo: US is conducting secret biological experiments in Ukraine resulting in disease outbreaks

Summary

In 2018, the Bulgarian journalist Dilyana Gaitandzhieva published an investigation in which she concluded that the Americans were conducting secret experiments with bacteriological weapons in Ukraine. Then the Serbian edition of “Print” [magazine] published its analysis of what was happening, showing that after the start of cooperation with the United States, Ukraine experienced several outbreaks of absolutely wild diseases. These diseases did not usually happen in Ukraine but this forced the Ukrainian government to buy new vaccines.

Nevertheless, the “research activity” of the Americans still continues. Their laboratories are open in Kyiv, Odesa, L’viv, Kherson, Vinnytsia, and Dnipro oblasts. For a long time, laboratories have been operating in Georgia, where residents from surrounding areas also experience diseases. Recently [these laboratories] appeared in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Note, they are not in the US but around Russia.

Disproof

Recurring conspiracy theory alleging that the United States develops biological weapons and has secret biological laboratories around the world. The disinformation claim also capitalises on the oft-recurring conspiracy theory about laboratories in Ukraine, as well as the Lugar Lab in Georgia.

The US Embassy in Ukraine has repeatedly denied the "creation of military biological laboratories" in Ukraine.

The cooperation between Ukraine and the United States in the direction of combating biological terrorism takes place exclusively within the framework of Ukrainian legislation and in the interests of Ukraine.

In 2005, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine and the U.S. Department of Defence signed a framework agreement on preventing the spread of technologies, pathogens and knowledge that can be used in the development of biological weapons. Within the framework of this Agreement, a number of state laboratories located in Odesa, Kharkiv, L'viv, Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Kherson and Dnipro regions were modernised (repair works were carried out, equipment was updated, consumables were purchased, etc.).

The Security Service of Ukraine emphasises that these laboratories are financed from the state budget, subordinated to the Ministry of Health and the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

Zelenskyy wants to give Crimea to Turkey, Erdogan supports this

Zelenskyy is trying to tear Crimea away from Russia in order to hand it, along with the Kherson region, to Erdogan.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the illegal annexation of Crimea.

There is zero evidence that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wants to give Crimea to Turkey, or that the Turkish President Erdogan is interested in this.

The “colour revolution” in Belarus aimed to disrupt the integration of the Union state

An attempt to overthrow the Belarusian authorities was made with the political and financial support of the West. Among other things, this was done in order to disrupt the integration process within the Union State, to divide Russian-Belarusian relations.

By means of the “colour revolution” technique, the United States is purposefully stirring up tension in a number of countries and undermining the internal political situation. This violates international law and ignores the interests of sovereign states.

Disproof

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests as Western-backed 'colour revolutions', part of a campaign to portray massive mobilisations in Belarus as a destabilisation effort orchestrated from abroad, particularly from the US. There is no evidence that the protests in Belarus are funded and organised by the US or any Western country.

Contrary to the claim about colour revolutions, protests in Belarus erupted to contest the results of the presidential election in Belarus on the 9th of August, which were not monitored by independent experts, and are largely considered fraudulent by both international observers and a large part of the Belarusian society. Further mobilisations were organised and carried out by local actors, opposition politicians, and Belarusian citizens, without any foreign involvement.

Ukraine “does not observe” the day of the country’s liberation from the Nazis

The liberation of Ukraine from the fascist invaders is celebrated annually on 28 October, the day of the final expulsion of the troops of Nazi Germany and its allies from the modern territory of Ukraine. But if last year the anniversary date was formally observed in the country, then in 2020 there will be silence. Neither President Zelenskyy nor other officials have not yet congratulated veterans and residents of Ukraine. There are no messages or congratulations on the President’s website on this important day.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation about Ukraine.

On the 76th anniversary of the expulsion of Nazi invaders from Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy honoured the memory of those killed in World War II. This was published on the official website of the President's Office:
