Disinfo: US laboratories in Ukraine are deadly

Summary

The US equips bio-laboratories in the territories of the post-Soviet countries precisely because they are afraid of the leakage of infectious substances and waste into its territory. Such laboratories are located not only in Ukraine, but also in Georgia and in other countries surrounding Russia.

Disproof

Recurrent Kremlin-led conspiracy theory not supported by any evidence.

The U.S. Embassy in Ukraine denies all these claims. On the contrary, in Ukraine, the U.S. Department of Defence’s Biological Threat Reduction Programme works with the Ukrainian Government to consolidate and secure pathogens and toxins of security concern in Ukrainian government facilities while allowing for peaceful research and vaccine development.

"We also work with our Ukrainian partners to ensure Ukraine can detect and report outbreaks caused by dangerous pathogens before they pose security or stability threats", the US Embassy stated.

There are numerous similar disinformation cases about coronavirus claiming that it was created in a laboratory, or that it is an Anglo-Saxon biological warning: originates in US labsis a US provocation against China, a tool to weaken the Chinese economy, an attempt by the Anglo-Saxons to control China.

The US might be developing biological weapons in Georgia

The US is trying to increase its “biological presence” outside of its territory, including in former Soviet republics. Moscow has information that Washington offered Georgia the opportunity to extend the scope of biological research projects in a US-owned lab in the country, which is called the Lugar laboratory. It is possible the US is researching materials causing dangerous diseases.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative concerning the Tbilisi-based Lugar Lab.

The Richard Lugar Center for Public Health Research is a facility of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), which became operational in August 2013. The Lugar centre is a top-tiered institution in NCDC’s laboratory network and serves as a reference laboratory for Georgia’s public health system. In no case has this laboratory designed, redesigned or built biological weapons, though this is a trope in Russian media.

Baltic countries are preparing for war during the pandemic

The Baltic countries are preparing for war during the pandemic. Even in conditions of emergency and quarantine, the armed forces of the Baltic countries are not ready to give up large-scale exercises. The civilians are unhappy with this – the situation, according to civilians, is not very good for the rattling of weapons.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about the West/ NATO threatening or encircling Russia and the US-led military exercise "Defender-Europe 2020". The disinformation message aims to present the Baltic States as militaristic and their armed forces as lacking the support of civilian population.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, many joint military exercises have been cancelled.

NATO decided that the fight against coronavirus should be an information war

Instead of dealing with the coronavirus, NATO will fight fake news about it. NATO decided that the fight against coronavirus should be an information war. Apparently, by this logic, this virus should be scared and leave. The Alliance does not intend to undertake anything else and solve real problems.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation message about NATO and the coronavirus.

NATO is providing help worldwide during the pandemic. While NATO does not have stockpiles of medical supplies, its coordination centre can help with heavy transport, logistics and by matching donors with recipients. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, eleven countries have asked the NATO centre for help. Among others, the centre has facilitated the delivery of disinfectants from Ukraine, ventilators from Germany, protection equipment from Turkey and respirators from the Czech Republic. A shipment of thousands of surgical masks from Estonia to Italy and Spain is expected in the coming days.
