Disinfo: US military exercises in the Black Sea are a provocation and an attempt to contain Russia

Summary

The US military exercises in the Black Sea are a provocation. These exercises are a blatant attempt to test Russia’s military reaction and raise tensions in the region. It is a part of the policy of containing Russia, causing very aggressive attitudes and destabilising the situation as a whole.

Disproof

Recurring pro-kremlin disinformation narrative about military exercises and encircled Russia.

This disinformation message appeared in the context of a repeated increase of Russia's military buildup near Ukraine, much to the concern of Kyiv and its Western partners.

Every country has the right to conduct exercises, but it is important that they are conducted transparently and in line with international obligations. NATO exercises are open to observation in line with the OSCE procedures.

NATO is a defensive alliance, whose purpose is to protect its member states. NATO's exercises and military deployments are not directed against Russia – or any other country. Exercises are designed to ensure that NATO forces are trained, able to operate together and ready to respond to any threat from any direction. In this context, US troops participate in these exercises. The alliance does not attempt to contain Russia.

Disinfo: The Anglo-Saxons fooled Georgia into starting a war with Russia

The Anglo-Saxons fooled Georgia and made Saakashvili start a war with Russia. As a result, Georgia has de jure lost territories that it de facto had already lost before.

Disproof

Recurring pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative about Russia's role in the Russo-Georgian War.

Georgia is a sovereign country that was attacked by Russia in 2008. Many international organisations condemned the further occupation of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, see e.g. the CSCE statement here, the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia here and the European Parliament's declaration.

Disinfo: Poland needs to restore balance in relations with Belarus to solve migration crisis

The only reasonable proposal [to solve the migration crisis] is to try to take preventive measures that would completely eliminate this unpleasant picture of people wandering on the Polish-Belarusian border. This cannot be done without restoring the balance in relations with Minsk.

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about the migration situation on the EU-Belarus borders.

The claim that Poland does not want to solve the migration crisis on the border with Belarus through diplomatic tools is ungrounded. The Polish Government stays in contact with Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya as she is perceived as a legitimate representative of the Belarusian society (unlike Alexander Lukashenka, who has lost all the political legitimacy).

Disinfo: Poland inspired the border crisis with Belarus in order to fight the Nord Stream 2

The border crisis [with Belarus] was manually created by the ruling team of Kaczyński, Duda and Morawiecki. The first goal of this crisis is the consolidation of the PiS electorate in a situation of the falling party ratings and recent protests.

The second goal in the inspiration of the border crisis is to underline the importance of Poland as a Western and American outpost in Eastern Europe. The border crisis is important for the Polish authorities also in the context of the failure of the large-scale propaganda and political activities aimed at disrupting the construction of the Nord Stream 2. The Polish authorities were the vanguard of the “crusade” against this gas pipeline, which ended in disaster. Today, they need to present some “success story” [in terms of the Nord Stream 2].

Disproof

Recurring disinformation narrative from pro-Kremlin outlets about the migration crisis on the EU-Belarus borders.

The claim that Poland “manually created” the migration crisis in order to fight with the Nord Stream 2 and reach its domestic and international goals is ungrounded.
