DISINFO: US prepares a revolutionary scenario for Moldova

SUMMARY

The US prepares a revolutionary scenario for Moldova after the presidential elections. The US State Department has already ordered its embassy in Chisinau to “set up the opposition in advance to organise mass protest actions” in case Dodon is re-elected. The United States continues to unceremoniously interfere in the internal affairs of states friendly to Moscow along the perimeter of Russian borders.

RESPONSE

Recurrent pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative framing popular protests as Western-backed colour revolutions, part of a campaign to portray possible protests from the opposition in Moldova in case current president Dodon is re-elected as a destabilisation effort orchestrated from abroad. No evidence is provided to support the allegations. Pro-Kremlin disinformation narratives frequently claim that popular protests around the world are allegedly incited, and funded, by the US and other Western states, including colour revolutions in post-Soviet states, the “Arab Spring” revolts, Euromaidan in Ukraine, protests in Catalonia and others. This narrative claims that protests, disorders, and civil uprisings are never manifestations of popular discontent but are “colour revolutions” directed and funded by the West. See similar cases claiming that the protests in Belarus are a colour revolution conducted according to a Maidan scenario and that the West wants to prepare Maidan in Belarus.
