DISINFO: US prepared people in different parts of the world to organise protests

SUMMARY

Have you noticed that they [the media] are showing people now who is guiding the crowd? ‘This is where the bricks are stacked’. This wildly reminds me of Yegor Zhukov and his comrades during the August riots in Moscow, it is the same style and same system of organisation. Now the Americans are fed up with their own product. They prepared people like Yegor Zhukov in different parts of the world, they prepared them to organise protests. Well, now they got protests at home.

RESPONSE

Pro-Kremlin disinformation narrative claiming that the United States supports so-called "colour revolutions" around the world. This narrative portrays any spontaneous disorders and civil uprisings in other states, especially the former Soviet republics, as Western-funded "colour revolutions", including the Revolution of Dignity (Euromaidan) in Ukraine, which began in 2013 without any outside influence. Yegor Zhukov, a Russian student and activist, is also mentioned. Russian media claimed that Mr. Zhukov "has long been known for his calls for revolutions", which has no evidence. There is also no evidence that Mr. Zhukov was somehow "prepared" by the US to organise protests in Russia.

Since his arrest in August 2019, Mr. Zhukov has become a symbol of a wave of anti-Kremlin protests that rocked the Russian capital in summer 2019. His videos called upon viewers to use all possible means to depose President Putin, whom he called a “dictator and a tyrant.”

Mr. Zhukov was initially accused of taking part in the demonstration and of directing mass riots, in a case that included other protesters. The case was later closed because of a lack of evidence that any riots had taken place.
